    AK-47 Pistol?

    Hey guys,
I have been looking for an answer to this with no luck....
    See this?:

Well, very cool. Now, i know people make AR-15 pistol receivers, but what about for the AK. I've seen these pistols for sale built on ewbanks or Ohio ordinance receivers. But doesnt it have to be a pistol receiver from the factory to meet federal guildlines for overall and barrel length?

I've never seen these sold as a "pistol" receiver?

Anyone know the scoop..And forget about the CA legality of this, that is a whole different issue which has been discussed about making it single shot, etc...

I talked to my dealer about this last night. Just find a dealer selling off-list AK receivers, and before he ships it have him write it off in his books that its a pistol receiver. Then you are free to make a single shot gun!

Won't work. You would need to find someone with a pistol AK receiver already in the state to PPT it to you. If it is an AK pistol receiver shipped to an FFL, they wouldn't be able to transfer it to a California resident as it is not on the 'safe guns' list and hasn't been drop tested.

Converting a rifle to a pistol is creating a SBR which is a felony in California, and unless you live in a free state, illegal without ATF approval. Converting a handgun into a rifle is allowed.

If the receiver is sent over as a SINGLE SHOT PISTOL LOWER it can be legally bought, DROS'd, and transfered because single shot pistols are now exempt from all that testing BS.

According to the ATF, a receiver can be changed over in the manuf. logbook from rifle to pistol as long as the receiver has never been assembled. Some will do that for you, some won't...In the end, you have a receiver in the logbook as a pistol for the free states and a rifle in the PRK. nobody would ever know.
