I think this might be a Sig or a Ruger but I can't tell. Can someone tell me what it is? The sights look strange and I have never seen one in that color before.

Looks like a Sig but not and poor finger control by the shooter. There are Sig copies as well Like the TZ."I would kill for a Nobel peace prize." Steven Wright"

Star Firestar were very popular in Europe in the early to mid nineties.
They sold brandnew for about 350 Deutsch Marks - which came down to about $ 170,00 back then.
They weren`t the worst handguns - but very heavy (as stated above).
They could be had in 9mm Luger, 40 S&W ..and later on, in a way heavier and bigger gun, as a .45.
All of them were singel actions - and I recall that quite a few had to be send back to Star for reliability problems, but don`t remember what Star did to fix it.Comment

The Firestar M43 (9mm) and M40 (40S&W) pistols were not without issues. But for the price, if one wanted a pistol for home defense that would not be used a great deal, the Firestar was perfectly fine.
See: http://www.star-firearms.com/firearm...ar/index.shtml
The guns were heavy for their calibers, but that was an asset with the .40 caliber version. Firing the 9mm was very comfortable, although their weight would make CCW problematic.
Attached is a clear picture of what the Firestar pistol looked like.Attached FilesComment

YUP. That was my first handgun. Bought it in '91. Except it was a black M40.(.40S&W). $319.99 price tag, IIRC. Red plastic compact case. Great shooter. GOD, do I wish I still had that thing, as they (Star- Eibar, Spain) have been in the rear view mirror for years now.

Let us hope our weapons are never needed --but do not forget what the common people knew when they demanded the Bill of Rights: An armed citizenry is the first defense, the best defense, and the final defense against tyranny. If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military, the hired servants of our rulers. Only the government -- and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws."
