    Steyr Pistols..

Any of you guys have a Steyr M40A1 or the M9A1?

I was looking at a new pistol and somehow they caught my eye...I was looking to use it as an HD gun and as a plinker........

Reliable? Easy to maintain? etc. etc..

Thanks in advance for the help.....

Solid, well made pistols from a long established manufacturer. Just not very popular. Funky sights that take a little getting used to; low bore axis helps a lot with recoil control.
They've just never sold many of them.

I bought one last year and put about 200 rounds through it without a single FTF or FTE. The sights do take some time to get used to but they are fast as any open sights that I've ever used once I got used to them. Recoil is noticeably less than similar sized and weight 40s. My wife loved it when she shot it and has taken it for her own.

My only criticism is that under the bright sunlight the tip of the front sight dissapears because it is such a fine point. I noticed that I was shooting about 2" higher than when I was shooting under a cover.

Shot over 600 rounds without a failure. Bought gun because of triangle sights but found that it wasn't as good as it looks. Trigger is ok with minimum creep. Overall an excellent pistol for the price.

i like mine a lot, i think it is better than the glock 17. Trigger feels better, the mags are metal, the slide rails are thicker, everything seems to be heavier duty. Shoots great everything it is fed, easier to take apart, captured guiderod, feels great in the hand and it is cheaper. I would pick another one up if i see a deal. It is just too bad that styer is not selling many of them for whatever reason.

I have a M9A1. It was designed by a Glock engineer who left Glock and went to Steyr. I love it.
