Are you able to get gen 4's? They are not on the roster last time I checked. G19 if you want a compact, G17 if you want a full size. Can't really go wrong with a G19, if you are looking for a 9mm Glock. -
Hit up the range and say I'll take one of everything.. You'll know by the time you leave.Comment

G17/19, CZ 75, and XD9 are all great starter handguns. Go to LGS to see which one best fit in your hand and go with that one. They are all great guns.Need Light for your Gun Safe: MaxMySafe Lite Tech LED Gun Safe Light System

^^^ SSE (single shot exemption). I know of two places within about 45 minutes that could do it if I really wanted to and I'm in NorCal. There are more places down south.
Glock 19 all the way. It really is a gun you can't go wrong with. I would try to rent it first if you can as people complain about Glocks somehow. I never understood how you can legitimately complain about a grip angle or a spongy trigger... But it's not my place to tell them what gun to get. If you are just going to fondle and not shoot before you buy, I would check out the Glocks, the S&W M&P, XD (some people really love theirs), Ruger SR9(c) and then maybe a Sig 226/229 or a CZ if you like DA/SA or all metal.
With all that said, I chose a Glock over M&P and XD. I also have a Sig, but didn't have a place to rent the CZ, and really enjoyed the Sig. Doesn't mean you should choose the same as me. The CZs are supposedly absolutely fantastic fwiw.Comment

This is what I've been told/seen as well.
As far as Glocks go I just picked up a G17 and love it. Best option is to go to a range and rent the guns you are interested in before making a purchase.
With that said if you are looking for a home defense weapon I would suggest a revolver (assuming you already own a shotgun). Revolvers tend to be very reliable, simple and safe weapons. With a revolver you don't have to worry about FTF/FTE issues or complicated (by comparison to a semi-auto) operation.
Personally I went with a Ruger GP-100 (GP-141 to be exact) as my first handgun and it goes bang every time I pull the trigger.Comment

G19 is a good choice, it's a well balanced size.
Gen3 or Gen4, if you like the the Gen4 texture, I would say go for it.
Extractor issue, anyone's guess on both version.
Mine is a Gen3 and I simply have stop shooting it, as I am tired of getting brass to the head (waiting for Apex).
Welcome to handguns, and do not get hozed on the price, (g17/g19) fair for you price should be $500+tax+dros.
I would rent them first though.
Have fun.Comment

First and formost, get a .22lr. It will save you a ton of money on ammo and make you a better shooter. If you're stuck on buying a piece of tupperware, at least get a .22lr conversion for it.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

Step 1) go to range and try out what fits best.
Step 2) buy what fits best.
Step 3) go shoot some steel!!!Originally posted by Jimi JahI punch paper only because it is illegal to punch people.Originally posted by elpaisa1I think flatulence is a more serious crime. I think it should be a misdemeanor with a 1000 dollar fine or 6 months of jail. It should be a felony if done near an open flame.

Well you seem pretty set on what you want. Why did you choose a 9mm? You gotta go with the .40....but if your pretty set on that then the G19 sounds pretty much it unless you wanted to go the next size up and get the G17. You will need to go to the range tho bud and see which generation you prefer due to the grip feel from gen3 to gen4. I personally like the feel of the gen3.Active Law Enforcement

If you haven't held a Glock in your hands or shot one then you don't know if you want one or not; you just THINK you want one, or you like the IDEA of owning a Glock. You don't know unless and until you've held one in your hand, then shot it.
While there are plenty of people who love Glocks, there are plenty of others who don't. Personally I can't stand them. To me, they have the ergonomics of a brick and shoot about as well.
But you need to find out for yourself which group you fall into. It would suck to plunk down some coin and take an immediate $100-$150 bath on one.Comment
