Beretta PX4 Storm or Glock 17/19

I have the option of keeping a Beretta PX4 Storm 9mm or selling it and buying a Glock 17/19 9mm (already own Glock 23 .40). It has been said the Springfield XD's began this trend of Glock consumers asking the question "Glock or 'Other'?"

Today I want to ask the same question in this comparison of the Beretta PX4 Storm (not to exclude many others such as the M&P9 which I own, and the Walther PPQ which I want to own)... The reason I compare these two firearms are due to the following similarities and differences that I noted. They include:

    Primary Similiarties
    1) Polymer Frame
    2) Minimalist approach to slide contact points
    3) Reliability by design
    4) Weight and Grip feel
    5) Quick Field Strip/Similar Take down release
    6) 17 Round Capacity (irrelevant in CA)
    7) Tactical Rail
    8) 9mm Caliber
    9) Combat/Personal Defense Purpose Built

    Primary Differences
(Beretta PX4 Storm vs. Glock 17/19)
    1) Hammer fire/Double Action vs. Striker Fire
    2) Short-Recoil Rotating barrell vs. Short-Recoil Tilting barrell
    3) Slide Safety vs. Trigger Safety
    4) Rounded slide vs. Squared slide
    5) 3 Dot Iron Sights vs. Glock Rear "U" Sights
    6) Changeable Backstrap vs. Gen 3 fixed Backstrap
    7) Round Trigger Guard vs. Square Trigger Guard
    8) 5 Piece Field Stripped vs. 4 Piece Field Stripped
    9) Italy vs. Austria

I haven't shot this PX4 Storm yet, it is NIB so I look forward to the feedback.

Except there are over 3 million Glocks already, and they have been dominating competition, outside of 1911's for 2 decades, and there are trillion high quality accessories out there, why would you want anything else?

Nice. It would probably save some cash... The main reasons I am considering the Glock are for the Striker Fire design and platform standardization (have Glock 23). Granted, I could keep the PX4 and buy a Glock but that is not a very interesting situation to write about and I am starting to run out of space in my safe.

The pain of change I suppose... This is the most common excuse customers/prospects give me when they stick with the incumbent product.

I would return the Berretta and look into a Smith M&P. You can usually find a good deal on a used Glock 17.

I have a stainless 92fs... it was included in my first gun purchase along with a Springfield 1911 .45 TRP

As I mentioned I have a S&W M&P9 with Apex Trigger, RAM, Sear Block Mod, Warren Tactical Night Sights, Heat Stippled, etc (see Photo). Not sure what you mean by "return the Beretta" but that isn't an option. If you see a good deal on a 17 let me know, leaning toward the 19 since my M&P is full size.

I'd personally go with a Glock 19, that and the HK P30 are my 2 all around favorite guns. The Glock, at half the cost of the HK is a great value.

Nice. I have been hearing that P30 is very "shooter friendly".

It's not an excuse at all, just a fact, and backed up by personal observation in competition. Glocks just run pretty much forever (way way more than a casual shooter will run in a lifetime). I retired a G21 after a little over 125,000 rounds, and 2 of my G17's have passed the 80,000 round mark.

It is, the P30 is the end all be all as far as ergonomics go IMO. I really like the LEM trigger as well. The reset isn't as short as a Glock but it's firm with a clean break and after the initial long takeup, you can fire fast and accurately off the reset. I personally like the piece of mind in being able to thumb check my gun to the holster when carrying IWB appendix. Mine only has around 3k down the pipe but it's been 100% so far.

Another gun worth taking a look at is the Walther PPQ. It's striker fired like a Glock and has ergo's similar to the P30 (not as good) but hands down has the best trigger I've yet to see on a striker fired gun. Mine is about 4-4.5 lbs is glass rod breaking crisp and has the shortest reset on anything other than a 1911. I'm still putting it through the paces but have put 1k down the pipe and my friends have done about 400 through it. No issues but I'll be damned if the mags aren't hard to find and expensive when I CAN find them. My HK mags were a solid $20 cheaper! Yikes!

That is statistically amazing... In fact, at .20/rd of 9mm that would be $16,000 per G17 and at .30.rd of .45 that is $37,500 on the G21 for around $70,000 in total ammo shot! Please re-read my comment, I think you misinterpreted... "excuse" was referring to the reason people do not change current product ownership.

I might be working a trade with my buddy, hence "SPF" not "Sold".

Nice stats on the P30. I rented a PPQ at a range in Washington a month back, I take clients and partners there as often as possible... It really is a great gun to shoot.
