Who still makes .38 Super 1911's?

Who still makes .38 Supers other than Colt?

A cousin of mine is interested in one. But doesn't want to spend more than $1000. A friend has a Armscor Rock Island .38 Super but it seems they don't make them anymore. Springfield doesn't make theirs either it seems. I can't find one on their website.

RIA, bought one about a year ago to convert it to 9mm worked quite nicely

Just checked, Armscor is rebuilding their website so cant get any info there, but the guns are still on roster until September 2013, and last time I was at Turners they had a parkerized one in the case.

I have not seen that Armscor/RIA has stopped. Like the 45 and 9mm it's one of the least expensive entries to the 1911 and the quality for the price isn't bad at all. I'd buy an RIA 9mm now if it was on roster or I could get an SSE at a reasonable rate in my area.

We have been looking around locally to find one but can't. I tell him to look into converting one.

How was the conversion? Was it easy?

Quite, bought a Sarco inc 9mm barrel, a barrel link(needed the smallest one out of a wilson combat 5 link set) and barrel link pin. about 10 minutes with a fine file and a bit of reblueing and it worked like it was always a 9mm. total cost was about $60 for the conversion.

Here is the barrel I used Link out of stock at the moment, but the conversion was dead simple

So I'm assuming 9mm to .38 Super would be the same? Thanks I'll tell him.

I think Tarus and Kimber both make them.

Esarco has what you are looking for. Even with shipping and transfer fees you should still come out about the same as your local shop.

Saw a Kimber Pro Carry HD in .38 at Turner's Torrance about a week ago:
