    Just bought 2 Sig P6's

..and had a couple questions. Why the notched hammers? I do not really care for them as they look like a snag waiting to happen.
Do they make replacement hammers, or will the 220 hammer work as a replacement? Will 226 or 220 grips work for this weapon(s)? Thanks all! I cannot wait to restore both these guns and go Akimbo!

NICE!!! I think it would look much better with the regular hammer (226/220?) (IF they do fit)
Good luck on your resto project!

I know that the hammer is replaceable but I can't say which one. Theres a few stories on the hammer notch. The most popular seems to be that if the gun gets dropped the notch closes and the armorer knows its been dropped. I don't know if I believe that.

Congrats on the purchase. I love my P6. I managed to find one that was manufactured the month/year I was born. I'll never sell it.

Congrat of the nice pair...I also got two a while back and am very happy with them.

The notched hammer was indeed a requirement of the German Police agencies that issued them...they had a between the P5 (Walther), P6 (SIG) or P7 (H&K)...to indicate is the gun had been drop on the hammer spur and needed to be check by the armorer. When dropped, the gap in the hammer would be crushed and would give immediate visual feedback.

If you don't like the notched hammer, the direct replacement is one from a SIG 225...the 220 hammer won't fit.

The grips of the 220 and 226 are won't fit either. The first is too tall, the second too tall and too wide. The 228/229 grips are the right height, but the frame openings are a different width and the screw holds won't match up.

I have a set of Pachmayr rubber grips on one of mine. Hogue also makes aluminum and G10 grips for the P6/225. Or you could just put on a pair of the factory 225 grips

Okay, first off, congrats on the p6 purchases! I got mine 3 years ago and paid $350.00 with the hand select option. I had just turned 21 and wanted a Sig so bad. I have been overjoyed with its value and reliability. Love the gun to death!

              1. If you wanna replace the hammer it's gonna cost you a ridiculous amount of cash. I paid just over $50.00 to get a new one. The hammer for the CLASSIC SIGS will work. I got the 226 hammer and installed it on my p6 no problem. It just blows to take the weapon apart, but it's just one of those things. If you need help I will be glad to help you.

              2. As others have already posted, you can't use other p series grips on the p6. :-( This is true. I have always hoped that Sig would put out modern grips for the P6, but hey what can you do? The factory grips that come on the P6s are just fine and work well.

              3. The ONLY reason I replaced the hammer on my P6 was because there was a crack on my hammer and it just got worse and worse until it finally broke off on the "spur" section. It was buggin' the bejesus out of me and I finally broke down and got a new one from Brownells. While I was at it I bought the Duracoat Shake and Spray kit as well as some MEPRO lights. It's a lot more modernized and it looks sharp.

              4. If you google p6 magazines you'll find that there are very good condition mags on the market right now for 30 dollars or so a piece. It might seem steep for a used mag, but it's kind of the time to buy them. I haven't ever seen them this cheap, but I don't check prices on that stuff all the time. I went ahead and bought 3 more and duracoated them as well.

              5. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll help you as best as I can. I would consider myself an 9 out of 10 on being able to do good work on the gun.

              Take care
              -William-

Great pistols, you will love them. The notch was used for a stap of some kind that would break if the pistol was drawn & fired. So police would be held accountable for the discharge of the gun. That is my understanding of the notch, true or not.

because i am afflicted with the "purist" syndrome, i would have to have several "time period" magazines with "P6" markings to go with my P6... just because.

Every time I think about the fact you have 2 Sig Sauer P6's, and I had to sell mine makes me want to do this!
Congratulations! Don't leave them in the safe or holster, they
already went through that with the German cops. You need to let them run wild (in an aimed manner of course)

One down one to go. I pick one up today and the other in 30 days because of CA stupid 1 handgun every 30 days law. Ray, dont worry I shoot ALL my guns regularly
