Glock23 Receiver Slide guide flaking/chipping

Hello, new guy here, wondering if I could get some help please.

I have a relatively new Glock 23 gen 3, I have put about 200-300 rounds through it and noticed on the receiver that the metal slide guides were flaking off/chipping. is this normal?

I worry that the bare metal might rust or get scratched up if the top layer is chipped off. please let me know.

I think that is just carbon residue comin off. It's supossed to be bare metal. In my opinion all is fine.

My current 19 was the same way. After 400-500 rounds it settled in and started to wear "evenly". Mine's bare now - looks like you have residue like I did. Hope this helps.

This is what I came here to say. Glocks come with a loctite gold lube usually and that looks like the residue.

Clean it, lube it lightly and run the crap out of it.

I hope so. it looks like silver paint chipping off, the metal underneath was copper in color, I was worried it was rust.

unfortunately I lent my gun to my friend to shoot and he clean the factory gold lube off

Sure looks like that's the factory copper colored lube. Those parts aren't plated brass. As far as I know, the lube is the only place that color could have come from.

This is the lube they use from the factory. I don't recommend you buy it - I believe it is more for long term storage than for lubrication.

Again, just clean it up and lube it lightly with your favorite gun oil. Glocks aren't that picky in my opinion, unless you use a ton of bearing grease or TW25 - then it just slings it on your face. Ask me about the time I went to a Glock match and I had white lotion all over my face - yeah it looked like I might have had something else on my face but that's a different story...

Nevermind, I found some other pictures of receivers. The wear is premature but normal.

It should be dull silver in color. I still think it is residual copper loctite. Hit it with some hoppes #9 or mpro7 and clean it off, I bet it comes off.

I can't say for 100% certainty, but I can almost guarantee that is not made of copper - it would be too soft. It has to be steel. There is probably that copper loctite in the slide up inside. Give it a good cleaning and it will go away I promise!

I am OCD too when it comes to cleaning, but I've figured out my Glocks can really be abused pretty heavily and really show nothing for it.

Nice choice, I've got a G23 too. Good gun. Plan on doing any modifications to it?

Gosh, I haven't seen that in my G35 and it has got several thousand rounds through it.

Don't sweat it - you aren't gonna wear it out anytime soon.

You might want to consider a 9mm conversion barrel. I probably use it about half the time in my G23. But shoot the heck out of that G23 before you change anything on it. You'll like it a lot.

Normal wear and tear on the rails, and it will also develop dings on the slide where the locking block hits.
