When is it time for refinishing?

So my gun is coming up on 10,000 rounds and the internals are pretty much bare on contact spots. Should I be worried about refinishing it or leave it? The outside still looks pretty good so if I don't have to, I would rather not...

I'd say leave it unless it's rusting. I bet it's so buttery smooth

I'd leave it and keep shooting. Wear from use on a gun gives it character and makes it more personal, especially if you caused all the wear yourself. Perfect brand new looking guns are a pain because you're always worried about them getting messed up. A well worn gun is good looking and you know it won't let you down. It's proof that it's actually being used like it should be too.

Just had one of mine refinished. It was looking pretty rough. Used techplate. Did a great job. When should you have it done? For me it was when I had the money and the time. The gun had character but I like the way it looks and feels like new.

All the 1911s I've seen have a max of about 1k rounds before they are either sold or traded or shoved in a safe because they don't want to scratch or wear their well I have a... Gun..

That's awesome! I saw have it check by a smith and have him tell you what's what and if yes that's a good purchase make a 1911 new again for another 10k

Ive got a better idea..

Buy the replacement parts.. shoot the thing till it breaks then get it fixed. That way you get everything out of it and don't have to wait if/when you finally do get her to give in.

Then treat her to a nice dinner and get her nails did gun ways by sending her to a smith for some pretty work for being such a faithful companion

Well I guess I don't have to be worried. I know the blueing is just metal treatment but I maintain it enough to where I don't have to be too worried about rust. I'm mostly concerned about the magazine well because it has rusted before and I have to keep an eye on it frequently.

This thing sees the range once or twice a week since I live less than 5 min away. I plan on shooting it til it breaks...not too worried about appearance. I'm a tradesman all my tools get used appropriately until they wear out and then they get rebuilt/reworked if possible or replaced with something better.

If you are really worried about it you could oxphoblue the inside of the slide, frame, rails, etc... It will wear off and wear off fast, however. It also smells like crap. I would just put sheath or some other type of oil on it every time you take it apart to clean, not a big deal.

That's just usual wear and tear, which imo is to be expected and accepted in an all steel firearm. The outside still looks great, barely any wear from what I can see. I see no need at all to refinish it. Ive seen many pistols in much worse shape finish wise that are carried/used all the time. Your Kimber looks great for having 10K down the pipe!
