    S&W 686

So, I got this 686 sitting in my safe and rarely comes out to play. Its a 4 inch 686-M. I got it in a trade because I figured everyone needs a revolver. Then I got my hands on a pre-lock S&W 60 3 inch 357 mag. This took all the thunder away from the 686. Now, I noticed that I lack a AK style rifle in my collection. So, the question is, do I sell or trade it for an AK? Or am I just out of my mind?

If it's a pre lock M686, I wouldn't part with it. They don't make them like that any more. I like the small J frame Model 60 but it isn't as comfortable to shoot as the L-framed 686.

AK47 guns will be around for a long time and due to their numbers, will always be a shooter's gun but never a collectors piece.

If I were you, I would keep both S&W guns and just buy an AK. I've always later regretted selling an S&W revolver that performed well for me.

Keep the wheel gun and save up for a AK later on. I own both and love both for different reasons

The M would indicate a 686 no dash that has had the hammer nose modification done at the factory. The no dash are worth a bit more to collectors.

I would keep it if at all possible. Many consider the 686 to be the best .357 Magnum ever made.

The AK can wait & you can get one anytime. Just save up & buy it when the funds is enough (my 2 cents).

I have a 686-nothing and a Model 60-nothing. I wouldn't trade either of them for an AK. It would be impossible to replace either revolver at the prices I paid for them. I haven't shot the 686 in years, although I have let friends use it recently. The Model 60 is my house gun. Just save up and buy an AK.

+1. Assuming it is a 686 no-dash, pre-lock, 6-shot in good condition, I personally would rather own this model than a Model 60, J-frame, 5-shot (especially if shooting a steady diet of .357 magnums)... Wait a minute... I do!
It's my house gun and occasional IDPA gun. I am aware that many might prefer a 3" barrel, but I absolutely love my 686 4" pre-lock 6-shot and do not plan to ever let it go... "No-way for an AK".

Don't listen to these guys. You should sell the 686, possibly to me and buy an AK

You are going to sell off a S&W 686 to buy an AK-47?

I am sure you have your reasons but for me to do that, the AK would also have to be able cook, clean and get me a fresh beer from the refrigerator on command.

I own both 686 and model 60. Keep both of them. .38+ P & .357 will come in handy years down the road and those wheel guns are excellent for everything from backpacking to SHTF. They are classics.

I sold my 686 no dash a bit over a year ago for $300, but I now miss it and would give you $300 for yours.

The full length dust cover rail makes a world of difference in the "when I run out of bullets I'm going to beat you to death with the pistol" look that causes bad guys to run in fear, and lesser men to feel inadequate. It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!
