    Near Roseville... places to shoot?

I got some great suggestions from you all on ranges that have rental guns. So total was $150 to go shooting last weekend of course that includes rentals and range fees. I just found out that you can shoot in national forests, I was wondering if this is true what are the laws on this? If this is true it would save me a lot of money and I would definitely be able to go shooting a lot more often as well..

Of course i this is true where exactly near roseville, ca could I go to? Someone told me Foresthill is a good place, but that is a really big area and I wouldn't want to be shooting somewhere that is illegal. Thanks!

There's an uncontrolled range near Camp Far West.

Plinking and target shooting are allowed on National Forest land.

Spenceville is managed by the DFG. I would NOT recommend the range at Spenceville on a weekend, or on/around a holiday.

You can find a number of good places to shoot, both in the Tahoe & El Dorado NF. Just be safe and make sure that you have a safe backdrop.

Personally, I prefer to spend a few $ on gas, pack a lunch, cold drinks, a chair, mabe a table or shade canopy, and spend the better part of the day shooting at paper, steel, & various reactive targets.

I am hoping to revive this post now that I am about a week away from going shooting. Something like Rob's reply is what I am looking for, a day of shooting some paper/steel taking a lunch and some cold drinks and making a day out of it.
I am definitely going to either Tahoe National Forest or El Dorado National Forest. I just want to be sure that I follow all the laws and not end up in trouble.... So from my understanding anywhere in these forests it is legal to shoot?? if not what are the laws/regulations?

Another thing I am interested in knowing is whether I am allowed to carry exposed and loaded in a holster?

Please only certain answers as this could mean some possible jail time if I were to get in trouble for anything haha =D Thanks ahead guys!!

you are nutz if you trust the anwser on a gun fourm. I would def listen and then research for myself. someone will prob link you to some info. But I have been reading alot latly and I see so much messed up anwsers it is not even funny.
Get a grasp from the fourm for sure then look into detail what you find here if it mean jail or not.

That is exactly what I was going to be doing =)

Most of these guys do seem to know their stuff but I would still check it before actually going out. I would prefer a link to something that would confirm their statements =)

Why not just go to Dillman Range in Lincoln. It cost ten bucks for non members, is safe and you won't get in trouble for doing something you shouldn't do.

Obviously your $150 shooting day was almost all gun rental and ammo. $15 is the high end for range fees. Shooting in the NF may be more fun, but your not gonna save $$ by the time you count gas and extra ammo

$17.00 per shooter, approx $12.00 to rent and if you rent you have to use their ammo $12.99 for Federal 9mm. My bill was about 100.00 for four people. You guys must have blown through some ammo.

Me and my wife rented 2 guns and bought 50 rounds of 9mm ammo each.

for $150 there must have been a mistake of some kind maybe someone charged you for the wrong lane.
for a range there ammo prices are great no idea of rental prices though.

Please don't go plinking in the natl forest this coming weekend. Deer season zones d3-d5 opens Saturday morning and plinking would be rude to the hunters who have scouted our limited public lands. Go to Dilman in Lincoln. It's $10. You'll spend a lot more than that on gas to get to the woods.
