    SHTF guns/calibers

Hello , I just wanted to start a discussion on what guns/calibers you guys all would use if SHTF. I would use my ruger .22, 12 gauge, and 9mm.

The one that fits my firearm in hand.

I have my G17 as my sidearm.
My 642 as back up (Been thinking of switching to G26 for compatability)
          My AR15 as my primary
My 870 as back up to primary/secondary/hand out
My M44 as long range/back up/hand out rile

          The calibers I currently stock are 9mm (1000 rounds) 5.56 (1000 rounds) 12 G (225 00 Buck and 25 Slugs) 7.62x54R (440 Rounds)

Im trying to get to 2000 for 5.56 and once I get my 10/22 Takedown I will stock pile at least 3000-4000 (how ever much fits in a .30 cal ammo can)

My SHTF gun is the one I can get to first because, well, SHTF.

If I can afford some time to select...for carry I would probably grab my Sig P229 and my AR which seems more appropriate in the urban environment (downtown LA) I live.

                      List.

It depends on how hard the SHTF and how long it is going to last.

Are you going to be in a "static defensive position" where you are holding up or are you going to be moving.

One thing you can figure on is you won't get resupplied with ammo.

For handguns, I would have a 9mm or 40 cal.
                      A 45 cal is optional.

You have to figure you won't be able to go to Wally to buy more ammo.

You will need an AR in .223, common caliber.

A pump action shotgun, 12 guage of course.

If you are mobile, you have to consider weight, if you are in a static defensive position, you have to consider maintaining a low profile to limit attention that may be drawn to your "hideout".

                      Non gun items to consider.

                      Knives
                      Bow and arrows, cross bows.

The only SHTF situation I can imagine is getting caught out of the area after a LARGE Earthquake that tumbles buildings, cracks roads, drops overpasses, cuts electrical and certainly some cell towers. Fires will be started and out of control, looters will break into stores for food; later into Target and Walmart for the usual expensive stuff they can steal. Local gangs will be roaming in certain areas and decisions would have to be made to either travel towards home or hunker down for the night.

I have a get home bag with some food, water and supplies for about 3 days. My only firearms are one GLOCK 20SF with 5 extra 15 round magazines and a Glock 19 with 1 extra magazine. (15 round, 9mm). I do change out handguns depending on my mood.

No rifles, no shotgun. I have comfortable shoes and a parka with hood. The handguns have holsters as well.

I do refill my tank when it gets down to half. I suspect I would do my best to drive home depending on the route.

                          That's it.

EDIT..another idea would be to check into a full service hotel for a while. Watch the riots and unrest on TV and travel when safe.

I think 7.62x39 and 9mm are pretty safe bets... Plenty out there as I know most of you have a cache
