Sell TRP operator full rail with upgrades for a double stack 1911

I am contemplating selling my TRP operator with upgrades and extras to buy a double stack 2011 in .45 Im thinking I can get 1800 for the operator with the upgrades and included items.

I am looking for suggestion for a nice double stack 2011 in the $2000 range.

I have been looking at brazos customs website, and am interested in the edge, or the eagle. I am particular to the Edge as I like full length dust covers. My number one requirement is reliability, so here are my questions.

Can I expect the same reliability as the TRP Operator?
Is the build on STI guns on par with the operator?
Can I expect out of the box reliability?
Do these types of guns feed hollowpoints well?

If anyone can suggest an alternative within the price range, please let me know.

I can own high cap mags, and I am exempt from the roster.

You can't go wrong with Brazos STI EDGE. Works 100% out of the box, feeds ALL kinds of ammo. Why .45? Get the .40s&w if you want a 2011.

I really like the .45 round, plus i dont want to add another caliber to reload or buy. I don't plan on using it for competition, just a reliable, fun, accurate range toy.

well if you are planning to shoot .45 then I suggest you stick with a single stack 1911, since you won't get the benefit of a fast cycling 2011 in .40.

I own a good amount of 2011's. 95% of them are .40, 5% are 9mm. I shot a good amount of .45 2011's too. .45 round just feels better in a single stack 1911. Stick with your TRP if you want to shoot .45. There is NO advantage shooting a .45 2011 if you already have a nice 1911.

There is NO advantage shooting a .45 2011 if you already have a nice 1911.

Ya know, I've found (decades of experience) that you don't sell good guns like your TRP---you will regret it later. ADD a hi-cap pistol to your inventory instead!! Two is WAY better than one...

Of all the 2011s that I ever hear about being fussy, it is always .45s that top that list. The double stack 1911s really shine in .40 S&W, .38 Super/Super Comp., 9mm Para./Major.

Also, do not forget that you will still need to get a set of magazines. A set of four magazines will cost $400-600 depending on who you get them from, who's guts (springs, followers, basepads) and tubes you use, and if they are tuned or not.

The magazines are the heart of the 2011 platform. Once you get those lined up the gun should run well with quality ammo.

I have an STI Eagle in 6" 9mm and a tactical in 3" .45 ACP. I love the .45 because it's a perfect carry gun. It holds 15 rounds of .45ACP and is ultra accurate out to 50 yards. That's an amazing statement from a 3" 2011. I changed the hammer on the Tactical so it doesn't catch on clothes. I also put in a 3lb trigger because I'm used to competing with a 3lb gun. I practice quite a bit with the .45 doing quick draw and accuracy shots. I'm down to .29 seconds with a bullseye at 10 yards.

The Eagle 9mm is my Limited competition gun and it's definitely my favorite. 6" barrel and a 9mm is like shooting a gun made by God himself. I have about $1000 in polishing, trigger job, deburring the entire gun, refitting, etc. It's now a tack driver with a 3 lb trigger adjustable down to 2lbs. It recoils like a .22 and shoots holes in holes at 50 yards with a red dot. I can't see that far through the iron sights.

I LOVE STI and SV guns. If you're going to spend the money I'd probably opt for the SV instead this time because their guns are higher quality. You can't go wrong with either one. ONE HINT!! ALWAYS buy the bull barrel without the bushing. It takes longer to clean but the accuracy is considerably better with the bull setup. Especially with a shorter barrel like the 3". I have bull barrels on every gun I own. I only own SVs and STI guns. Nothing else comes close in my opinion.

I forgot to mention that for competition, you really NEED the non bushing bull barrel. They handle the heat and wear from multiple shots much better than bushing guns. They're also more substantial and feel better in your hand.

I do own a TRP Operator with full rail and would not trade it for a 2011 STI. The TRP is not equal to the quality of an STI but it is definitely close and probably the best gun on the market for the money. A comparable STI would cost around $1800 which is the 5" Tactical with full rail. The STI is built like a tank except for the plastic grip. The TRP is simply built like a tank. I have STI single stack .45 ACPs and love the Tactical and also the Edge. for a single stack though I'd keep my old standard which is the TRP operator with full rail. It's heavier, tougher, and I haven't had a jam since I bought it new last year. I also shoot it better than the STI single stacks.
