Im sure the custom II would be the most cost effective as the R1 i belive is not on roster.

They are both good guns. I can vouch for kimber, my brothers is great!

The reviews on the R1 have been a little...well let's say "uneven". I don't have any first hand knowledge on the R1 but I would look to the Kimber Custom II and the Ruger SR1911 first.

The Rugers are hard to come by but have had great reviews overall.

Kimber hands down. Way more bang for the buck and it looks good!

            This.

I love my Kimber TLE II "My first 1911", It's almost broken in. I've only put 400RDS through her, and now I am starting to notice the trigger/action now feels much more crisp/smooth. For me it's a great pistol, fun, comfy, accurate "depending on shooter", does the job for a Range Gun/Home Def.

If your looking at a GI Model, I would honestly pay the extra dough for a Colt.

I am going this route as I was going to get a g21 and someone said .45 get a 1911. Since I already have so many glocks I figured I would do it. Kimber seems to be the one so far.

Mags for the kimber seem to be priced around 20$ wich isn't to bad.

I really enjoy my Kimber TLE II as well. I haven't noticed any dramatic changes in the trigger/action yet though.

I love my G21. For pure shooting pleasure the 1911 wins hands down for me.

If my memory serves me correct the Remigton 1911s have a pretty spotty rep. I've personally never shot or seen one but have seen some negative reviews about them.

Look into it but I would say to with kimber even tho they don't have a perfect rep either.

After 38 years of shooting and collecting 1911's, and owning multiple examples of just about ever possible magazine including Wilson 47d and ETM's, CMC, Checkmate, etc, I'm firmly in the Tripp Research camp now. There are other very good magazines but I think the Tripps are the best all-around. At $35 a piece though they're not cheap.

                          +1 on Tripp Research.

My 1911 wouldn't even feed with ETM magazines.

Kimber....and disregard their stated 1 yr warranty, they've been known to uphold their warranty way beyond that and also to second owners!
