    LC9 Range report

I took my new LC9 out on Saturday and ran 250 rounds (UMC bulk from WalMart) through it with pretty good results as far as function goes, grouping and accuracy weren't all that great. Out of the 250 rounds I had 2 FTEs, I'm placing the blame on thumb placement of my support hand (my thumb was riding the slide). The first shots were high and left, fired a total of 21 rounds and adjusted the sight bringing the shots closer to center but they were still high. At a distance of about 15 yards and using paper plates as targets, aiming center mass had me at the upper edge of the plate so I figure im roughly 4" high at that distance. After trying different holds and positions with the same results I'm going to assume it's the gun and not me (and yes I know what happens when we assume) but will hold off on making a definitive judgement on the sights for now. The trigger pull and reset were longer than I expected but the trigger itself didn't feel gritty like I had read in other reviews.

I used the remaining 100 rounds or so shooting at steel targets at distances from roughly 10 yards out to about 25 yards. The 10 yard target was a roughly 18" X 18" square, firing rapid strings I was able to make the gong sing with all shots from the 7 round mag fairly consistantly. The gongs a little farther out required a little more of a pause between shots to make sure I was compensating for the shots being high from my POA, a few too many misses for my liking out to 25, but with a little practice I expect that to go away.

All in all I like the gun, I plan on taking it to the range with a few different types of rounds to see if that will change the POI closer to my POA. A trigger job may be in the works as well if I just can't get used to the long pull and reset but I'm reserving judgement on that till I get at least another 200-500 rounds through it.
A gun, like any other source of power, is a force for either good or evil, being neither in itself, but dependent upon those who possess it.

Not tooooo familiar with the LC9, but I know what you mean about the trigger. It's a reeally smooth & consistent pull, but suuper long. I rented a LCR in 38 spl the other day and it too was hard to shoot accurately, but I think it's just a matter of figuring out the weapon. I bet your two malfunctions were just a part of the break in. I think a small gun like the LC9 should have fixed sights. Good luck & congrats

FWIW, Mine likes 147 grain Federal AE FMJ to poke holes in paper.
      It's too late, it's over.

Thanks for the review. I've been on the fence about these for a little while. Do you plan on carrying it?
"Then there are sheepdogs. The sheepdogs are the bastions of safety. The sheepdog lives solely to protect the flock and confront the wolf. They live for the opportunity to be called to duty to protect the innocent. The sheepdog has fangs and the propensity for violence but hopes that he will not have to resort to it. However, he lives for that day when he will be able to use his warrior skills and mindset to keep the wolf from harming the sheep."
