My advice is to skip the GI models and parkerizing and go with a Springfield Armory "Loaded". You'll eventually want the features that come on the loaded and you'll save money in the long run by getting them up front with the Loaded. Also keep in mind that a parkerized finish is impossible to match with aftermarket parts. If you decide to swap the hammer or grip safety down the road to upgrade your GI your choices will be blue or stainless not parkerized leaving you with a patchwork finish. Get the Springer Loaded in blue or stainless.

You're getting the "real thing" with the Garand so do yourself a favor and get the real thing in the 1911, a Colt. I prefer the Combat Commander(I guess they're legal in Kali). It fits my hand perfectly and just feels right. Good luck with whatever you decide on!

There is nothing wrong with a RIA 1911.

If you just want a blued looking GI style 1911 for a period piece that you will not fire/shoot, then I would recommend the Springfield Armory. They have a better name and make a good product. Resale with the Springer may be higher than the RIA (but who knows what tomorrow brings).

If you do plan to shoot the gun then go with a Springfield Loaded gun. It already has a lot of changes that improve the comfort of shooting a 1911.

I know from experience that you are better to save up your money and buy what you want. If you buy something just because it is cheaper now, then you will still be wanting the better 1911 later and eventually buy the better unit. It is a hassle and waste of time and money to do the two step process to get the same end point. I started with some lower quality 1911's and am now up to a Les Baer. Should have bought this years ago.
