    Browning BDM or is it...

    Hello everyone,

I went in to my local gunstore today and found they had a browning BDM on the shelf. I asked the sales associate to look at it, and oddly I didn't find the switch to switch the gun from SA only to DA only. I asked the associate if they had the original box for it, and they went into the back. He came back with the box, and I noticed the box said BPM-D not BDM. Anyways I have been looking for a BDM for a long time now (I like unique guns.) I paid the man did the paper work, and went home. As soon as I got home I jumped on to the web and did a search. I found from a few places that said the BPM-D is the SA/DA version of the BDM, but the interesting part is they were only made from 1997-1998 and only about 800 exist. I was blown away by this, and to think I only spent like $400 out the door. My questions are 1) How much would this BPM-D be worth if I wanted to sell it? (condition 97% with 2 10rd mags and original box and manual.) 2)Are there any other differences between it and the BDM other than the DA\SA selector switch?

    Thanks,
    Dan

I know a retired police officer who loves and carries his BDM---I've shot it and it worked very well. My only objection to the piece was the safety lever operated in the "wrong" direction. This is the first I've learned of the BPM-D model---you like unique guns, well, congrats, you got one!

BPM-D is just like the BDM except for two things. 1) It is both DA/SA at all times, and cant be altered. 2) it has no safety. The safety lever that everyone complains about is only a decocker.

decocker puts the BDM into DA mode. decocker on the BPM-D (Browning Pistol Mode Decocker) puts the pistol into a "pre-cocked" setting, wherein the hammer is partially cocked and hammer spring is partially depressed... resulting in a 1st shot trigger pull that is shorter and lighter than the DA variants.

my understanding is that parts are not so available, and you might want to start your hunt for extra magazines now.

i believe the value hangs around $400.00-$475.00+ in the condition you have described, with box and manual. recent sales may prove me wrong on estimate of value.

        congratulations on your acquisition.

Thank you BSG. I didn't know that about the BPM-D pre-cocked setting. I look forward to shooting it when it comes out of jail. It is too bad these guns didn't really catch on, but I am glad I was able to find one.

imo the BPM-D would have had a chance to taste commercial success if it had entered the market 10 years before it did. instead, it did not even achieve the status of an "also-ran."
