People will try to sell a gun in the private sales section for more than what you can go and buy it at a gun shop brand new. It irritates me that, that place is so heavily modded that I can't tell someone, "hey bud I know you are on your 20th bump, maybe its because you are too high on the price"

I just seen an ad for a person trying to sell a glock 19 for $600 that has over 2000 rounds through it. I typically don't complain about **** but this is seriously out of hand.

I understand that the seller can sell things for whatever price they wish but cmon now. This is getting out of hand.

Free market will work in this case. No one will buy it at a price they will not pay for it.
You could always watch the threads, and if someone posts, "Hey, I'll buy that glock 19 for $600", you could send that person a pm with a link to a brand new glock 19 for less money.

I assume it's because people will always counter offer anyways. I have something posted right now, but I never expected anyone to buy it at my original list price. But from my experience with selling online if you post a price that is reasonable, you'll have 1000 people coming in trying to lowball you and then when you say "no" they counter with a slightly higher lowball. It's such a hassle, but if I'm in no hurry to sell, then posting a high price will get me experienced buyers that are generally nice to deal with. Maybe I'll get less offers but I would prefer to not waste my time haggling.

Obviously some people like to haggle, but personally if prefer not to do it unless I need to acquire or move something quickly.

I tend to agree with this. It doesn't bug me, but I sometimes get a chuckle out of it. It could be one of a number of reasons I think:

(1) Person believes that the firearm is rare or hard to get.
(2) Person doesn't really know the value and just came up with one off the top of their head.
(3) Person really doesn't want to sell it so but some kind of crazy number on it.
(4) Person is trying to take advantage of someone else's lack of knowledge or unwillingness to compare prices.

For guns that I might have interest in, I do go back and check the thread from time to time to see if there is a price drop or count the times that something has been bumped. If they sell it at that price, more power to them.

i agree theres been quite a few certain firearms that i wouldnt mind shelling out cash for on calguns but these prices are not correct at all for the stuff i see thats used. I personally dont care if a gun has been babyied and barely fired but it is used.

Some folks think they can sell a pistol that they accessorized for the price they paid. There are people out there with money, but lacks the knowledge in how to put a gun together with after market sights, laser, grips and all the bells and whistles. For sone folks getting a gun that's been shot 100x and priced at gunshop retail price saves them the added cost of tax. In some cases they consider the 100x fired halfway being broken in. Some sellers just start high due to reasons mentioned already. If the gun is off list and it has a high demand in CA you bet the price is up there. Best example is a bare STI frame kit - retail price is anywhere from $400 - $600 depending which one you get. People will buy them at double that price just because it is currently made with unobtanium to a regular CA resident. I know of folks that were smart or lucky to buy a dozen or more of the frame kits prior to the approved list. I wonder what P series Sigs will go for if they don't pay the extortion fee?
