STS guns (Folsom) just today let me take the test w/o buying anything. Probably will buy from them in the future but they didn't have what I was looking for today.Comment

For a while it was taking forever to get new cards from DOJ and retailers were reluctant to give up a card if you were not buying a gun so they wouldn't run out for someone who was. I don't know of anyone having that problem anymore.Comment

I've heard of this happening quite a bit.
Like the other poster, I too took my HSC at Turner's.Originally posted by greasemonkey1911's instill fairy dust in the bullets, making them more deadly.Comment

But it appears to be cleared up now as stated above. Some still will do the "You buying today?" act but it really just leads to upset patrons so most just have you take the test."But far more numerous was the herd of such, Who think too little and who talk too much." -John DrydenComment

HSC test is a just a test. My brother walked into a Turner's and said "I'd like to take the HSC test" they told him to go up front and pay, and come back to the gun counter. They gave him the test, he passed, and looked at a couple hand guns. Said he will decide what he wants and will come back another time. Easy as that. They never asked if he planned on buying anything that day or from them.Comment

Great bunch of guys over there. Great prices too. They treat you like you have been friends for a long time, and always greet everyone and ask if you need help. Top notch service. Turner's Fountain Valley comes in a close second. Just my opinion.Comment

Yea , when I got mine my buddy was buying a pistol and figured may as well get mine for future purchases and the guy behind the counter was cool , but struck me funny the other day while I was at one of my LGS's and this guy told a prospective customer " we only do the test if your purchasing a handgun ." Thought that was BS , but business must be good if you can take a chance treating a potential customer that way . I can see both sides but to me its like buying a hunting license , You have to have one to hunt , or you have to have the other to buy a pistol the shop should feel good that you chose them to make your purchase , and of course future purchases .
