+1. It says public nuisance about 20 times. It's only a felony if you commit a crime with a weapon sporting a kit. I'm all for stopping the bill, but fear mongering with false information doesn't help our cause either.

From the Calguns Wiki:

30600 (old 12280). (a) (1) Any person who, within this state, manufactures or causes to be manufactured, distributes, transports, or imports into the state, keeps for sale, or offers or exposes for sale, or who gives or lends any assault weapon or any .50 BMG rifle, except as provided by this chapter, is guilty of a felony, and upon conviction shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for four, six, or eight years.

Even if you didn't get caught possessing one, it wouldn't do much good if you couldn't do anything except keep it in the back of the safe, yeah?

I was posting based on the wording of the bill itself, I know the standard assault weapon law. The distinction I'm making is between existing punishments and new punishments added in this bill.


(e) A violation of this section is punishable as follows:
(1) Where the person imports into this state, makes, sells, loans,
or transfers a conversion kit, that person shall be punished by a
fine of one thousand dollars ($1,000), imprisonment in a county jail
for a period not to exceed one year, or by both that fine and
imprisonment.
(2) In all cases not specified in paragraph (1), as a misdemeanor.


(b) Upon motion of the Attorney General, district attorney, or
city attorney, a superior court may impose a civil fine not to exceed
three hundred dollars ($300) for the first assault weapon or .50 BMG
rifle deemed a public nuisance pursuant to subdivision (a) and up to
one hundred dollars ($100) for each additional assault weapon or .50 BMG rifle deemed a public nuisance pursuant to subdivision (a).

If this passes would it make those who already own these weapons criminals or would they be grandfathered in like with the HI-cap mags? I hope that this doesn't pass, I want one some day...

There is no word in the current bill about registering, grandfathering, or compensation. Basically it will be "clarifying" the previous law, and saying that bullet buttons were never legal in the first place. So far, the wording is saying that they are re-defining "detachable" "fixed" and "removable" magazines.

So, any rifle w/ mag that can be replaced without disassembling the action = assault weapon

No it doesn't. It still need to have a features to be an assault weapon. Thus, M1A ajs mini14s are still ok. It just changed the meaning of fixed magazine.
