    3.5 inch compact 1911

Hello folks, I'd like to request assistance. I'm contemplating purchasing a 3.5 inch compact 1911, but I would really like to fire a weapon that meets these specifications before handing over the cash. I've been searching and calling around, and I'm positive I've missed some places, but I cannot for the life of me find a place with a 3.5 inch model for rent. I live in Upland, CA, and I'm willing to drive ~70 miles maybe more in order to pre-fire. If anyone can clue me in or drop me a lead as to where I might be able to find such a place, it would be much appreciated! I'd also offer 20-30 dollars if someone would be willing to meet me at a range to test fire their person weapon, I truly just want to confirm my interest in this weapon system. Thank you for reading!

I would help you out but I am in Norcal. By the way, 3" and 4" (and 4.25") are quite common but 3.5 not so much. I think Springfield may have one but not sure - are you sure it's a 3.5" that you are buying? What make/model?

I was looking at the Rock Island Armory 1911-1A CS compact platform, very similar to the Colt Officer platform. =P

I do not rent much anymore, but I do not remember any RIA's as rentals...usually see SA or Kimber's or Colts, pretty much all full size too.

Springfield has the ultra compact that is 3.5" barrel as well.
They state compact grip, so it's equivalent to the officers grip too.

          g'luck on the search.

Call the LAX Range, they usually had at least 2 compact/subcompact 1911's for frent the last time I was in. I know it's a bit of a drive, so make sure to call first.

Try the Oak Tree Gun Club. Probably 1.5hr from Upland.

Pretty sure oaktree doesn't have compact or sub 1911's. Didn't see any last weekend. I'll try and let you know if I see one there this coming saturday

RIA 3.5" 1911 is a great gun. My friend has one and is reliable and a great starter platform for a 1911.

Use the rest of the money on range practice/classes.

I have the GI model in the compact. It's a nice gun. If I were to use it for self defene/CCW, I'd probably spend a touch more and get the tactical model with the novak style sights though. Anther good thing about the RIA compacts is that it doesn't take any tools to disassemble. They recommend using a paper clip to help remove the guiderod and spring but you can do it without any tools if you just compress the spring as you remove the assembly. It's actually easier to disassemble than my full size sig 1911 as the barrel link tends to not move in the ria.

Very good gun for the money, compact, shoots well, and reliable. Winner in my book.

I have a Colt compact 3.5" - Of you are willing to drive to The Firing Line in Huntington Beach and pay for some ammo and range time - you can fire it if you would like.

Budd, that would be awesome! I'm available whenever you'd like to meet, my only request is at least about an hour and a half's notice as it will take just under an hour to drive there, then a little bit of time to fill out range paperwork and some spare time for any unforeseen circumstances. Actually firing should be quick, I would only want to put 50 rounds down range. I'll also give you like $25 cash for your time. Thank you very much!

Spoke to Finch - seems GTG. Prior military history and CCW. He will bring another gun to the range with ammo and CCW info and ID so I know I am not dealing with a new suicidal member. FYI. Any other bases I should have covered?
