Glock 17 - Gen 3 or Gen 4?

My first and only handgun is a sig sp2022 in 9mm. I would like to buy a .45 for HD but before I do this I want to find one platform to really shoot. This leads me to buying a Glock 17 this weekend. I've been interested in trying a Glock so finally going to get one. Now the question is Gen 3 or Gen 4. The Gen 4 fits better in my hand. But, have the issues with the Gen 4 been resolved?
Also, who has the best price for SSE near Sacramento?

I'm not sure if the issues have been resolved, but do a quick search for user's Shenaniguns' threads about his recent experiences with a G19 Gen 4. Apex Tactical Specialties out of Los Osos is releasing an extractor that seems to have fixed the 9mm Gen 4 extraction problems.

I got my Gen 4 from Wild Bills in Elk Grove. I'm not sure if they have the best prices or not, they just happened to have what I wanted in stock when I was ready to purchase from them. They are a great shop though.

I never heard about Gen 4 g21's having extractor problems but I have heard about the g17's and g19's having them.

I would try and find a gen 2 g21, I like the ergonomics the most on the gen 2 glocks. If you can find one jump on it.

I just picked up a gen4 17 a week ago. I've only put ~300 rounds of S&B FMJ ammo through it. Not a single problem. Fired every time. Ejected - to the side - every time. Auto loaded the next round every time.

Gen4 because it (initially) fits your hand better, plus backstraps in the event that feeling changes after putting rounds downrange....

However, be aware that the extractor issues have been reported on both Gen4's and recently manufactured Gen3's.
Also note that users are reporting that the extractor issues begin occurring after hundreds of rounds have been fired without issues....
So has it been fixed ??? Glock would like you to think so.

I currently have ~500 rounds thru my Gen4 17 without significant repeatable issues... but I do not consider myself 'lucky' yet,
nor do I consider the extractor issue resolved... Way too many on-going reports from former Fanbois.

I have small hands and it took me some time to get used to my gen 3 g17 but if reliability is even questioned I wouldn't hesitate. Go gen 3, can't go wrong.

I have had both, and I prefer the GEN 4. My GEN 4 G17 has over 4,000rds through it, with absolutely zero problems. It has the original extractor, 336 ejector, and 0-7 RSA. Either I won the lottery, or the problem isn't as widespread as the Internet would lead you to believe.

The G20/21SF frame is not even close to the 9/40/357 frames. It's both wider and longer/deeper. Standard 45/10mm loads have an OAL around 1.26, so they require a magazine that will accept that OAL, and a magwell that will take a magazine that big. The 9/40/357 mags only allow OAL's to about 1.165, but standard 9/40 ammo is @ 1.125ish".

The GEN 4 G21 is the nicest shooting factory Glock I have ever shot or owned, including (2) G21SF's & a G30SF. You might want to go the 45 route now, and if you do, the GEN 4 is definitely the way to go. I have well over 3,000rds through mine, and it's been absolutely money.

Thanks for the info. Heading up to Sacramento Black Rifle on Saturday. They said $575 plus tax and DROS for a Gen 4. Best price I found so far. I'll make sure to update on how it shoots.

I'd would have and did take an M&P45 or a G21. I love glocks but that G21 is just a fat SOB. The M&P45 fits the hand much better. Check it out along with the G21 before you buy anything.

another one for gen 4, I havnt had any issues with mine ever! about 1,200 rounds so far.
