    S&W 5903TSW...Thoughts?

Someone offered one to me as a trade for my shotgun, and I thought I'd ask about this gun.

I don't know much about this S&W series other than the 4006TSW is the CHP service weapon.

The 5903TSW appears to be a lighter alloy version of that with a slightly shorter barrel....

Believe it or not, google failed to bring up much on this weapon at all, except that you can get springs for it special order on Midwayusa.

    Anyone have one? Thoughts?

    Originally I was looking for a G19/SR9/C for a compact 9mm......since I already have a huge full-size DA/SA 9mm.

But if this gun is cool enough, i might bite.

What's something like this worth probably?

It is similar to the 5906. It is basically the double stack version of the 39 with an aluminum frame. The the 3 at the end means its aluminum. All the 3rd gen s&w are cool and it is probably a 400 dollar gun.

      Very nice gun!

The "9 Tactical Smith & Wesson" was produced 2000 to 2002. Ambi safety and a black rail mounted on the frame for goodies. The frame and slide were machined as a matched set with an assembly number on each half. Front strap was checked, fixed barrel bushing and the frame & the slide are fitted with oversize rails.

The hood on the barrel should have a "small window" or hole so when a round is in the chamber, you can view the rim of the cartridge.

Very well made gun. Not too many of them out there. In excellent condition, $450 to $500.

      Good Luck!

That's some good info there Mr. Beretta. If the shotgun in question is a 500 or something that is cheap and easily accessible, I would trade. 3rd gens are harder to find then most shotguns. If the shotguns is worth more, then obviously don't trade.

Agreed. I love all my 3rd gens, and I like the ones my dad has as well.

One potential issue with them is the trigger play spring or sometimes referred to as trigger return spring. Basically it's a riveted in small piece of sheet metal in the frame, that puts tension on the trigger and prevents any slop when in single action mode. I had to adjust the one on mine. (I used a pencil eraser to bend it a bit and add tension) No big deal. Also S&w can replace it if it breaks. You can check if it's in adjustment by cocking the hammer, and seeing if there is any for/aft movement in the trigger.

They are awesome guns, and a shame they are not made anymore. I'd jump on it if it your SG is of equal value (450-500ish)

                Good luck!

Is the rail that it comes with a s&w proprietary rail like on the sigmas, or standard?

Check out this S&W thread http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=601709. A lot of guys, including myself in that thread that love S&W pistols.

My daily carry gun is a S&W 5903 standard model. Such weapons are not very common even in "Free America";I had to order mine from a gun distributor in Kentucky who has since sold out of his lot. It has the same reliability and accuracy benefits of the 5906, without the heavy weight of the stainless steel lower receiver. Between the 5906 and the 5903, the latter makes for a much more balanced firearm for carry on account of its anodized aluminum frame. You go from "boat anchor" status with the 5906/4006 to more "Sig/Beretta" territory with the 5903.

My own example has hundreds of rounds downrange in my hands with 0 malfunctions. Id jump on this ASAP, since MY odds of finding a 5903 on sale in America are almost nil, to say nothing of California.

The SW 5903 sure is a sexy sun of a gun. Sleek and robust.

So the grips were a little scuffed up when I handled it.....purchased a set of hogues for it locally for $20.

Anyone have any ideas on the +P or +P+?

                            Rail?

I wouldn't shoot too many +P or +P+ rounds through it but shooting a box or two to see if it feeds reliably (which it will) will be just fine.
