Glock 21 Gen 4 Review

Nice review, thanks. You basically confirmed my suspicions. The only thing that I REALLY like on Gen 4's is the new mag release button. But I'm not sure it's worth the extra money just for a better button. I guess if you're willing to drop an extra $30 to $80 dollars on an upgraded mag button on a Gen 3, it makes sense to just get the Gen 4."Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill
"I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!" - Senator Barry Goldwater -

I like the grip texture on the gen 4's better. But good point.Comment

The ergonomics, tighter barrel lockup that shows in better precision, the added texture has made my Gen 4 G19 worth it over my previous 2nd and 3rd Generation G19's.My opinions are my own and do not represent the position of other companies I may be involved with.Comment

Ok, since this thread is still going i'll give a little feedback.
I'll have to disagree with you about the backstraps being a "Gimmick". I own a standard gen 3 21 and personally the grip fits just right in my hands. The ergonomics line up perfectly for me. So, i would use the backstraps. That flexibility coupled with the textured frame make the gen 4 a win in my book. Remember, everyone's different. So i hope you can understand why they added the back straps."Then there are sheepdogs. The sheepdogs are the bastions of safety. The sheepdog lives solely to protect the flock and confront the wolf. They live for the opportunity to be called to duty to protect the innocent. The sheepdog has fangs and the propensity for violence but hopes that he will not have to resort to it. However, he lives for that day when he will be able to use his warrior skills and mindset to keep the wolf from harming the sheep."Comment

I realize some folks like the thicker grip. Apparently not many people liked it enough to prevent Glock from introducing the SF model which shortened the reach from the back strap to the trigger. It became such a popular design that they've now made all Gen 4's SF thin at the base level and allow those that like the thicker feel of the older G21's to insert the grip panels.
If you were to do a blind taste test of a G21, G21 SF, M&P 45, XD45, HK45, FNP 45 and ask a random shooter to pick the one that felt the worst and the one that felt the best, I would bet my next paycheck and overwhelming number of people would say the G21 felt the worst in their hands.
As for the back strap design itself, I feel it's poorly executed. It is obvious, to me, it's an after thought. It seems to me they incorporated the modular grips to follow what other manufacturers are doing with their new pistols so they can say "we have modular grips too."
