Do you guys think a hi point 380 or a Phoenix 22 would be good for a very inexpensive gun to put in a kitchen drawer and maybe a hall closet or something. just in case I need something to get me to my better bigger guns in a home defense situation?

Pretty much no one will say a 22 is a good defense round. And most will say that .380 is the minimum round to be used in self defense but that really you should use at least a 9mm
I have heard that the Phoenix work well.
Same could be said about the Hipoint, they go bang every time.
Don't all of their caliber models cost about the same? Why get one in 380 then?Comment

Unless you need something to conceal while you're wearing a Speedo or some such, I wouldn't recommend a .380 at all. I wouldn't feel uneasy with a 9mm Hi-Point stashed away, but then again I bought a NIB Ruger P95 for $261.I meant, it is my opinion that...

Minimum would be 9MM or .38 plus p.
No cheap *** guns that shoot inferior rounds.
Buy some used GLOCKS or RUGER P series (95 is good) and be done with it.May the Bridges I burn light the way.

You're only as strong as your weakest link. Think of it this way, you have to end the confrontation with that gun in the kitchen drawer, the bad guy is directly between you and the "better" gun. Now, ask the question again - what would I chose to defend my life? A cheap 22 or a quality 9mm?
Other questions to ask, do you have anyone under 18 living in the same residence. If so, you will be breaking the law by having a loaded handgun that junior can get to.

I think the key is "defensive situation". As an average I would say a typical defensive situation (at least one that I would favor) would last what, maybe 10 seconds or less? Wouldn't it make sense to have access to something that would "work well" in that time? Just sayin!Comment
