CA law prohibits modern SBRs unless you have a DW permit. Just because you have a 16" barrel doesn't mean that you can have an SBR.
Please explain? Everyone Iv talked to said as long as I permenitly extend my barrel to 16 inches I can add a stock . Please correct me if I'm wrong

you can if you make it so that it is not an SBR or AW rifle. Read the flowchart for more info on minimum measurements.

SBR is a specific legal term, you can't have an modern SBR in CA. you can have a rifle in CA that does not meet the definition of an SBR.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Welding on a 4 inch fake can brings me to 16 inches , making my pistol into a rifle . There for I CAN add a stock to my ( Cali version of a sbr ) . Of course I can't just leave it at 12 inches but this is the best we can do here in Cali . Unless like your article states ( we get a permit as use it for movies or props ) . Am I right ?

Draco barrels are 11.5. There is no such thing as a CA version of an sbr. Its either legally configured or not.

            Weapon type: Semiautomatic AK-Type Pistol
            Condition: New w/Cosmoline
Manufacturer: C.N. ROMARM S.A./CUGIR in Romania
Importer: Century Arms International, Georgia, VT
            Caliber: 7.62x39mm
            Barrel length: 12.25" Chrome lined

Specs says barrel is 12.25 , so adding a 4 inch can makes me over 16 inches unless my math is wrong ?

Must have changed with the latest batch. The older ones were 11.5

WTH do you mean by "Cali version of an sbr"?

here is the CA-definition of an SBR,
17170. As used in Sections 16530 and 16640, Sections 17720 to
17730, inclusive, Section 17740, Article 1 (commencing with Section
27500) of Chapter 4 of Division 6 of Title 4, and Article 1
(commencing with Section 33210) of Chapter 8 of Division 10 of Title
4, "short-barreled rifle" means any of the following:
                (a) A rifle having a barrel or barrels of less than 16 inches in
                length.
                (b) A rifle with an overall length of less than 26 inches.
                (c) Any weapon made from a rifle (whether by alteration,
modification, or otherwise) if that weapon, as modified, has an
overall length of less than 26 inches or a barrel or barrels of less
                than 16 inches in length.
                (d) Any device that may be readily restored to fire a fixed
cartridge which, when so restored, is a device defined in
                subdivisions (a) to (c), inclusive.
                (e) Any part, or combination of parts, designed and intended to
convert a device into a device defined in subdivisions (a) to (c),
inclusive, or any combination of parts from which a device defined in
subdivisions (a) to (c), inclusive, may be readily assembled if
those parts are in the possession or under the control of the same
                person.

and per case law, the OAL is measured with the stock folded/collapsed.

Exactly what it sounds like bro , it's the best we can do in California . It's a sbr with a fake surpresor to make it legal ( Cali version sbr ) I don't know how many more times I can describe that to you ? Thanks for your interest , now move along !

Seriously guys, semantics... get over it.

Once you permanently attach that extension, you shouldn't refer to it as an "SBR" because it isn't. It's just causing confusion on all fronts and that type of confusion could draw unwanted attention anyway.

It's not an SBR as Jack has stated, thats where the confusion is. It would be a rifle.

Its just clarification, to show antis how retarded the CA gun laws are.

Use of proper terminology is very important to avoid confusion or unwarranted attention. Saying "its a CA version SBR" can easily be interpreted as being an SBR under California law. Given that anti-gun forces regularly read these forums, that can get you into a world of hurt.

Furthermore, simply making your barrel 16" is not sufficient to prevent a weapon from being classified as an SBR. Overall length must be greater than 30" with the stock collapsed/folded.

Why didn't you just buy an AK rifle in the first place This seems like an awful lot of work and money for not much payoff.
