How much ammo is enough?

Thieves are the lowest form of life out there, except for liberal politicians, of course, but that's redundant.Tags: None -
When you are broke and homeless due to ammo purchases, I think you will wish you had invested in something other than ammo.
So I say spend up till the point you are close to broke, eating top rauman noodles; but not to the point of homelessness for you will be just a man with no place to house his stash.

I bought it when it was cheap.
I'm talking about Hert and or Radway Green for 100.00 for a 1K Round case.
I have about 3500.00 worth of 308 and about the same in 223 from back in the day when it was cheap to purchase mass quantities.
I remember traveling on Reno Air back in the early 80's when I found a deal on 308 and seeing about 15 cases of it travel up the luggage loading ramp.
That was back when it was about .10 cents a round.
Cases of ammo make a real nice decorative wall in ones garage. Ya might say it blends in real well.Comment

Better be careful, the weather and humidity is going to wither it away by next week. Are you not stressed out like all the nubs with 2000 rounds of 22lr with which is the best way to store such a commodity without it vaporizing?Comment

The only time you can have too much ammo is when you are on fire.
Honestly, I struggle with this question myself. I guess it is also that I come from a long line of hoarders, but given the price of ammo today, it may not be a bad idea to try and build up 5-10 years worth of shooting stock today. I used to turn up my nose at Winchester White Box .223 when it was selling for $4 a box, now I wish I had purchased 10,000 rounds of it. Then again, if this current conflict in Iraq (I won't say a war, because only our military is fighting it, the rest of us are sipping Starbucks and crying about actors who can't handle life and OD) ends and the market is flooded with loads of surplus 5.56 and 7.62, I will be kicking myself in the *** for buying anything more that the bare minimum of $8 .223.sigpicComment

if you have to ask yourself that question, then you dont have enough
ammo will hold for years as long as you store it right,i like to live by the 1,000 round minimum rule myself for every caliber i have.Last edited by ghost; 01-26-2008, 8:31 PM.Comment

Of course, ammo has been the best investment I've made in the past 10 years. Surplus .308 has gone up 500% in the last 5-6 years! When you are broke and homeless due to ammo purchases, I think you will wish you had invested in something other than ammo.

lol I ll blow that in 4 months or less depending on how much stress there is in my lifeSo I’m looking thru my ammo locker and I have about 1200 rounds of 9mm and 800 of .357 (just went shooting), about 400 .40cal, and 5 or 6000 rounds of .22, and about 200 assorted 12gage.
My question of the day is what kind of a stock pile should I have for the rough times?
Would 5000 of each be enough for when money is low? Should I keep rotating for fresher stock??
Let’s hear from you on what you keep for emergencies and for hunting.

I agree. It is a commodity, and heck - you can sell yours too on the market. Stock up on as much as you reasonably feel you can have per your needs, since with anything else, chances are not too far down the road it is going up in price."Just leave me alone, I know what to do." - Kimi Raikkonen

Not stressed at all.
The weather and humidity has no effect on my storage
Its in perfect conditions. Very dry and about 75-80 degrees.
The only thing that would damage it is if a TBM struck it coming up for air.

I just realized about 3 months ago that you can never have too much ammo because it seems that the price just keeps on going up and up, so I will spend about 20 of my life everyday searching the Internet for the best deals. Furthermore, I also realized that I was an Idiot for not saving my .223 and my .308 brass. Looking at the price for "once" fired brass has made me a "Brass Chicken" everytime I go to the range.Originally posted by tankermanI think most folks bubba their AR's because they watch too many action movies, play too many video games and don't understand how to socialize properly, so they fantasize about being 'action hero's'. I have to wonder if prices might dip here soon (wait to stock up?). There are too many variables that I don't pretend to understand, but I think we are about to spiral into a huge recession that may kill demand on a lot of materials, should will bring prices down. Other side of the equation...the War and the high cost of fuel and China using large quantities of materials for building. Soo.... maybe it all offsets. My general rule of thumb though is to buy more ammo than I can imagine shooting! When the word "never" leaves your lips...you just signed up for the event.Comment

you have no rifle.
, The OP should really think about getting a rifle. Once Zombies come within pistol range, it could be too late
