EFK Firedragon Barrels

Has anyone had any experience with EFK Firedragon products. I am thinking about getting this barrel for my beretta when they come back in stock.

I have one for my USP .40

I have not been happy with it. FTE & FTF often. It is a match grade so tight fit and accurate but not reliable. I polished it some and that helped but it still is not reliable.

I have that exact barrel from EFK in my SIG226R (9mm). It's a good quality barrel, the vents do absolutely nothing except shoot stuff up in your face. Not worth the extra $$$.

I am having similar problems when shooting Miwall 9mm reload ammo in the 9mm guns with the after market barrels. I reamed the hell out of the SIG barrel and now it feeds the ammo OK. Still tight in my XD, doesn't extract reliably.

Shooting good ammo will probably eliminate the problem, but it is too expensive and I bought aftermarket barrels so I could shoot the cheap stuff and save money. You wouldn't believe how much I had to ream the throat on that SIG barrel to get it to extract reliably...

I was afraid this would be the case. Thanks for the feedback guys. The non vented one might still work but I think I would wait till I start reloading that caliber to help reduce the FTF's and FTE's. Thanks again.

I think reloading 9mm is just bad news all round. It's a tapered case which expands when fired.... but, how can it be properly sized back to have the right taper? Apparrently it can't, because all the 9mm reloads I get don't have the right taper, they just have a maximum diameter withing the limit of the WIDEST point (the rear). But, when that maximum width occurs halfway up the brass, it jams like a wine bottle cork in the barrel throat.

I don't know what the answer is but everybody I know getting 9mm relaods has the same problem. You just have to ream the hell out of the throat to get them to fit or shoot new ammo.

I see what you mean. Reloading 9mm doesnt save hardly any money at all anyway. I didnt know 9mm had a taper. Do any other major cases have tapers? So far I only reload rifle ammo so this would be a good thing to know before I jump to pistol reloading.

AFAIK, the majors like .40, .45, .38S have straight walled cases which means you can size them "go/no go" by passing them through a die of the proper diameter.

Shooting 9mm reload used to be a joke back when I could always get case lots of new 9mm ammo on line for $110. Now, you are lucky if you can find one under $200, so getting a reload case lot for $120 saves significant money.... and pays for an aftermarket barrel in less than two cases in savings.

My wife has an EFK barrel for her XD 9mm.

The chamber is snug. It feeds good quality new ammo with no issues. It will barf on badly formed ammo. We use factory reloads in class for the practice clearing jams. It only gets the very best NIB Winchester Ranger at home in the nightstand.

It's a very good barrel... It's just not a Glock (eat anything, hit minute-of-barn)
