    Ruger HMR

I couldn't resist (again). I ordered a Ruger Super-Single-Six in 17 HMR. What the heck. Anybody else got one?

I don't have one but with a really good range report from you, I might be convinced to buy one!!

I will certainly submit a range report once I get the pistol. It's on order, but since I bought a pistol (SW MP 45) less than 30 days ago, I can't start escrow until Feb 6. I won't be able to render a range report until Feb 16 or so....

My research indicates the Ruger HMR has received good reviews. I am very happy with my Marlin 17 HMR rifle, so I would think the Ruger pistol should be accurate, and deadly on Mr Squirrel out to 50 yards or more.

I'll be waiting for the report. If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for it? Also, what is .17 ammo going for?

It depends on where you buy, and if you catch a sale. Figure roughly $10/50 rds.

I ordered the revolver from Rob at Breco in Clovis. $399 was the price. I've been paying $10-12 per box of 50 HMR rounds. Considering the quality, accuracy and terminal effect of the 17HMR it's well worth the money. (BTW, all 17 HMR ammo is made by CCI so the label don't make much difference) IMHO it's far more destructive than a 22Mag.

I was skeptical at first, but at 100 yards or less the 17 out of my Marlin rifle really tears up Mr Squirrel. Very close to .223. I have made some kills at 300+, but generally the 17 is a 150-200 yard gun. Any wind at all really takes it's toll on the miniscule 17 gr V-max. In the Ruger revolver I'm thinking it should be good to 50 yards with iron sights.

Thanks for the info. Now I'm REALLY interested!

One of my buddies bought one recently, I can't speak about it's accuracy since we were at the rifle range but there is zero recoil.
