Sorry if this is a dumb question or already answered a million times. I did do a search and couldn't find an answer.

Is the Springfield Arms XDM 9mm 5.25 illegal to own in California ? or is it the magazines (19 round) that are illegal?
If its legal does anyone know of an FFL who will do my transaction? Ive found a great deal on one in S.D

Purchase one via a Single Shot Exemption at Direction Action Solutions in Solana Beach and use 10 round magazines if purchasing new.

If it is used, you can simply PPT transfer the gun.

Here's kind of the basic "new guy" rundown on this:

The XDM isn't really "illegal in CA", it's just not on the list of guns allowed to be sold by stores in CA. Same thing goes for most other pistols which are "off roster" or not on the list.

You can still get an XDM, but with a bit more hassle involved. No store will sell you an unmodified, stock XDM because of the whole roster/list nonsense. What SOME stores will do is something called a "Single Shot Exemption" type sale. The gun is modified so that it has a longer barrel and can only accept one round at a time. You buy the gun in that condition. It's not illegal for you to "modify" the gun back to its original condition. You do so by installing the original barrel and removing or fixing whatever mods were done to make the gun "single shot". This is dead simple in most cases.

You now have - completely legally - your XDM (or whatever). You CANNOT buy new magazine with greater than 10-round capacity. Any store selling you such a standard magazine in CA would be committing a felony, and you could be considered an acccesory to that crime. If you are especially lucky or can jump through a whole bunch of other hoops (some of questionable legality), you might be able to come by standard mags legally, but that's a giant can of worms I'd care not get into.

Thanks!! I just read basically that same concept on their website. Soooo...I put a deposit down on an XDM. They were in the process of developing the "mod" to sell this model.
