    80% ?

What is this whole 80% thing I keep on reading about?

On another note, on GB I keep on seeing lowers being sold, mostly Glock lowers.

    Are those 2 phenomena related?

Google it and then ask us some more specific questions, happy to chime in.

Generally speaking, the "80%" lowers you are reading about are 80% AR15 lower receivers. The "80%" moniker is not actually accurate, but it's a term that has stuck. The incomplete lowers still have a few steps that have to be completed before they are considered firearms by the state and fed, specifically, they still requir the machining of -

      - fire control pocket
      - trigger/sear pin holes
      - safety selector hole

Onyouth else steps have been completed, you have a functioning AR15 lower. The state and fed DO NOT require that they be registered, and you can build as many as you like for your own personal use, as long as you are not selling them.

You DO however still need to follow the CA guidelines when building your AR, I.e. the evil black rifle flow chart.

The incomplete lowers are available from many sources, probably the most popular is tacticalmachine.com . And there are several entities all over the state that offer build parties / clinics to provide the end users with the appropriate tools to ease the completion o the lowers.

        Thank you for the explanation.
My lazy *** also Googled for more info as well. The more I read about this, the more I want to build one! A Sig or 1911 made by me would be super cool!

Now back to the other question. Why do I keep on seeing what seem like full Glock lowers being sold on GB? Is it simply because the gun is worth more in parts than as a whole?
