    Bluing

I recently purchased a mainspring housing with lanyard loop. It arrived without any bluing.

Anyone know where I can have this blued? I live in the Fresno Area but I do not mind shipping this out.

    Thanks

Birchwood Casey makes a DIY Bluing kit in a gloss or matte finish. I have one of their Bluing Pens that I used after I threaded a barrel.

I have done a lot of cold blue projects. The most important part of the process is prep.
Clean with 0000 steel wool and liquid soap and rinse. Dry with hair dryer and de-grease, I use alochol. You need rubber gloves for this as any oil from you fingers can prevent the blue from working. Repeat this process several times for a deeper blue. When you think you have it, oil it to set the blue and see what it looks like. When I do a barrel, I go about 6 times, well worth the work. Here is a clip on doing a barrel. You can buy the birchwood casey blue at big5. Remember, after you wash and dry it, steel wool it again to get any residue off.

First you should contact the seller/vendor and see what's up. You may have received a stainless part or a defective part. Exchange it with a correct one and you should be gtg.

Cold bluing is meant to touch up small scratches, it is not designed to replace good ole hot bluing. It discolors and wears off FAST, CLP will almost remove half of it upon first wipe down. Not to mention the odor it creates.

For a part that gets so much contact with your hand you oughta find a part that's already blued correctly.

So I can't just ship this out to someone, have them blue it and ship it back?
