    How does Glock do it?

I have a Ruger LC9 and a G19. (incidentally I have a G26 in jail) The LC9 has all kinds of safety features I personally find annoying as hell. The G19 however has one..the trigger safety.

Why is it that it the G19 doesn't have a mag disconnect, a locking device of some kind, a thumb safety; in short, how does it make it past California's BS pistol safety requirements?

Is it the difference between one being striker and hammer fired?

As soon as I qualify with the G19 and the G26, get them on my permit, the LC9 is hitting the road..

Thanks in advance for your responses..

The G19 & G26 were around before the safe handgun roster went into effect. They were grandfathered onto the list. That's why none of the Gen4 Glocks are on the roster.

Well the Glock has several internal safeties. As for the ca hoops. I have no idea. I know the requirements are drop safety and the loaded chamber indicator. Other than that I dunno.

There's no chamber indicator on my Gen3 G19 either..I forgot that one. Grandfathered in makes sense but my G19 is brand spanking new..

Loaded chamber indicator and a magazine safety are the two reasons the GEN 4 can't make the Roster.

Other than that the GEN3s pass all the CDOJ tests.

So the chamber indicator and mag disconnect are new and not required on Gen3's? Thank gawd...

Gen3's are still being built by Glock so there are still new Gen 3's. Its cheaper for Glock to keep the machining to produce Gen 3's for areas where they can't sell Gen 4's... And since there's nothing wrong with Gen 3's...

The extractor acts as a sort-of-LCI...

It's why new M&P's have all those mag disconnect things.

Glocks have loaded chamber indicators, it's the little nub that sticks out from the extractor. Any gun that was already sold in CA when the roster started was included. The manufacturer had to pay to keep that gun on the roster. Any new guns, no matter how similar needs to go through testing. The state will not even consider guns for testing unless they have the required features.
This is the California State handgun extortion list.

Guns already on the Roster need not have any of the new cruft that gets added to the requirements to get on the Roster.

The Gen 3 Glocks have been on the list so they are good to go. As long as Glock continues to produce them they are good to go. The Gen 3 Glocks do have a LCI of sorts but not lie the horrible red flags required now.

I am also in the "not a LC9" fan camp. The thickness and size of the gun is great, but I hated the trigger and the LCI.

But, those loaded chamber indicators do not met CA's requirement of a "chamber load indicator". [PC 16380]

                        Penal Code 16380
As used in this part, "chamber load indicator" means a device that plainly indicates that a cartridge is in the firing chamber. A device satisfies this definition if it is readily visible, has incorporated or adjacent explanatory text or graphics, or both, and is designed and intended to indicate to a reasonably foreseeable adult user of the pistol, without requiring the user to refer to a user's manual or any other resource other than the pistol itself, whether a cartridge is in the firing chamber.

Because treating all firearms as if they are loaded and physically conducting a chamber check is too difficult.....good job California, once again you have out done yourself... LOL
