    Which one to buy?

I am going to make my next gun purchase and I decided to get a 1911, I am looking at the s&w 1911pd, and the colt xse, which one should I choose? Can I expect good reliability from both? Or can one be more reliable than the other? I want to hear your suggestions before I go out and buy.

For a 1911, Colt is the way to go.

Sig 1911, new production models have no FTF issues and no MIM part what so ever.

The real parameters here should be

A: How much do you want to spend?

B: What do you expect from it?

C: Why are you buying the gun (home defense, CCW, plinking)?

Once that is sorted out, the questions should be Which 1911 shouldn't I get? and Why?

There are many great 1911's out there in every part of the spectrum moneywise. So I (and others would ask) what are you using it for and what do you have to spend?

Things like MIM are personal preferences, I own 1911's with and without MIM, it wouldn't sway me one way or the other.

Metal Injection Molding. Think Injection molding that they do with plastic, except now they're doing it with metal. breakages have been attributed to MIM manufactured parts. They might have had a bubble or some other manufacturing fault that's not detectable visually, but drastically affects the metal's performance.

Springfield Loaded series, Kimber Custom II series would meet your needs and budget. I prefer the Springers, others prefer the Kimbers are you a chevy or a ford man?

I was interested in the kimber warrior, but lately in other forums I have seen alot of people posting about kimber problems. I dont know tho how accurate or true their statements are. Would you guys consider the springers or kimbers better than those that I posted above?

You will get many "yes" answers to that question on both sides

I've heard horrid things about Kimbers, I don't own a Kimber I don't know what is fact or fiction. I own two Springers and I love em. I had one slight issue with sights being off on one of them, I sent it back to Springfield Armory they fixed it, sent it back and reimbursed me for the shipping expenses. No if ands or buts. The only question they asked is "did it do the same thing when somebody else shot it?" I thought it was a valid question and the answer was yes.

My SA Ultra Compact is my primary home defense pistol, also a good CCW gun. 100% out of the box, no failures of any kind. Springers can be hard to come by sometimes, I see lots of Kimbers out there.

Back to my question, Ford or Chevy?

and a few others are starting to recognize S&W. Relatively speaking, S&W is a new kid on the block in the 1911 space but their reputation with wheel guns has definately spilled over into this series. I highly recommend folks buck the trend and give these a look.

I l ike what I've seen with S&W 1911's, just never shot one. I had exclusively S&W semi-auto's for the last 16 years, but now I only have one left. I love S&W's for their reliability and accuracy, I just don't associate em with 1911's or AR's even though they are there now too.
