    M&P Magazine Issue

I was at the range today practicing with my m&p 9 fs. I shot to slidelock and slapped in the next mag. Usually with an m&p when u load it with a little force it goes into battery and chambers a round. This time i slammed the 17rd mag in a little harder than i normally do and the slide went forward but it didnt chamber a round.

I tried with a few of my other 10rd mags and they all worked as expected even when slamming them a little harder than normal. Went back to the 17rd and it kept doing the same thing. If i seat the mag normally it works fine but if i go just a little harder it wont grab the round.

Its not a huge problem, i know i shouldnt seat them super hard, but this has never happened before.

When i got home i decided to try it with my other 17rd mag which i leave loaded at home for HD. I slammed it in and this time the slide didnt even go forward and the mag got stuck. Had to forcefully pull it out.

So i know i shouldnt seat them so hard thats obvious, but could there be another problem here? For the record all mags were thoroughly cleaned before range trip because i dirtied them up at uspsa last wknd. All gun internals look normal.

Also worth noting that i disabled mag disconnect awhile back, it has fired maybe 500 rounds flawlessly since then.

So again, am i just slamming them in too hard or could i have a problem here?

    Thanks for any input.

I guess i should have mentioned that i wasnt loading them to capacity either. I never do with my 17s at the range because i tear through ammo too fast.

Thanks for the feedback i feel better

It does sound like you are experiencing bullet column bounce. Slide Lock Reloads were never intended to be preformed with partially loaded magazines and the springs aren't balanced to maintain the upward pressure for it

Yeah its a shame too... almost makes me wanna go buy more 10rd mags for competition Theyre more expensive too! Sigh...

Fortunately it hasnt happened yet during a match. My reloads tend to be more robotic during a match than when im just at the range. Im going to a gunshow after uspsa next weekend so i guess if i dont have any issues ill just buy more 17s.

Just curious, are you leo or out of state? I wouldnt talk about buying and using full cap mags as a ca resident.
