Hey guys,
I have a Springfield 1911 Range officer, and will be travelling to California from Texas next week.
I'd like to bring the gun with me as my friends in Ca will probably want to go shooting. I have looked at the airline and TSA regulations regarding travelling with a firearm but a friend recommended posting here just to be sure on the legality and what not.
Here is what I have so far:
Firearm must be unloaded and in a locked lock box in a checked bag.
Firearm must be declared when checking bag and a special form must be filled out.
Key to lockbox must be in possesion of the declaring passenger only.
Anything else I need to know (I think i'd have more a problem LEAVING california on the way home than coming in). Additionally, do we know if unloaded mags need to be kept in the lock box? My lock box is rather small and probably wouldn't fit the gun and the mags. I will not be transporting ammunition.
Thank you for your time!
