w/c .45cal to get?

i am looking to add to my collection of .45cal pistol. I am torn between a SigSauer P220 or an HK USP45. I know both guns are from a reputable firearm manufacturer and has performed impeccable in the fields. hence my indecision which of the two shall I get for my next 45cal pistol.

Any opinions (intelligent and insightful) will be appreciated...

I would think either of those guns are good have a well established reputation. I would say it depends which one you want first. The P220 has a nicer grip size though, unless you have pretty large hands.

Even though it's all personal preference, I'll throw out my $0.02...

Hand size: medium w/average size fingers

Shot both the P220 and USP45 as range rentals -- the P220 grip was ok, shot average, ergonomics was ok, boring. The USP45 shot well, grip felt "full" without stretching, ergonomics great (use your trigger finger to drop the mag, love the safety/decocker), slide looked massive w/tall sights, DA reach long, SA reach fine. Both trigger actions were nothing special.

Bought the USP45 as my new HD/range gun. Just wish it was an all steel gun. Looks enormous but doesn't "hold" like one unlike the CZ97B. Shoots as well as my MP45 but not as good as my 1911.

These guns are worlds apart in about every category -- you have to do a 45ACP shootout at the range.

Shot them side by side and bought the Sig. It was just a better gun for me.

I prefer the mag release on the HK, as well as their variant 1 trigger or light LEM triggers. Higher capacity as well without sticking past the mag well. A worked Sig trigger will break cleaner than a worked USP trigger though.

Do you prefer polymer or non? Also, the USP 45 isn't that comfortable for most people with small hands or short fingers.

I have a SIG P220 SAO its a great gun. The SAO and the HK have similar ergonomics in regards to the safety.

The control locations of the Sig are hard for me. I shoot thumbs forward and with a sig I'm always pressing down on the slide release. It is just too far back for my liking. Great pistol otherwise. Never shot an HK45 but I've held a few and was never really wow'ed. Price seems way jacked up.

My fav 45 has been my new M&P45. What a great feeling pistol and the recoil is very light because of the low bore line. Controls are easy to access and the grip is very thin for a double stack 45.

Both great selections. Have shot both extensively and own the HK USP45 so that tells you my preference between them. Key advantages to me are higher mag capacity, mag release location/mechanism, decocker+safety, better trigger pull with less slack in both DA and SA. No regrets! That said, no better "combat" .45 then those two IMHO, so can't go wrong either way. Shoot both and see which feels better to you then go with it and don't have any second thoughts.

If you're choosing between them you'll probably end up owning both eventually. Both great guns, that's why I have several of each. Handle & shoot both. Get a higher end model USP like Expert or Elite or German P220 with external extractor.

p220 - good: dead on accurate out of the box, all metal, longevity, well balanced, handles well, low/thin profile, no cock-n-lock safety to fuss with, smooth DA/SA trigger, easy conceal carry, shoots lead bullets, fool proof take down to ensure safe dis-assembly, allows for easy laser mounting, allows for grip choices (put a set of Nill grips on it and you'll know what I'm saying), more aftermarket upgrades/parts.

p220 - not so good: low mag capacity, 20lb recoil spring may not be best for light loads, possible internal extractor reliability issue.

HK USP 45 good - accurate, polygonal barrel for longevity, dead on reliable, recoil spring system reduces even the hottest loads' recoil, allows cock-n-lock for comp shooting, 10 or high cap mags, ambi-mag release, ambi-safety possible, my experience has been it allows for shooting accurately easier than p220.

HK USP 45 not so good - large in the hands, high bore axis, massive slide, polygonal barrel can't shoot lead extensively w/o frequent cleaning, can't mount laser or light worth a damn, expensive magazine, not many after market parts/upgrades, expensive, standard model slide has a weak recoil spring/guide tab (mine cracked).

I don't know what Kim Kardashian prefers but Tom Cruise likes the HK USP 45.
..He did some live fire with the weapon. HK is a fantastic weapon.
