    Assembly difficulties with TRP

I've field stripped my TRP 3 times now and out of all my 1911's this one is a real PITA to assemble back together due to the slide stop. The plunger spring (I believe that's what it's called) is a LOT stiffer than my Kimber & Scorpion and the only way I can get it in is if I use a skinny allen wrench to push it in and push the slide stop in. For those who have TRP's have you experienced this? To me this is just an idiot mark waiting to happen.

Don't have a TRP but I experienced the same thing before with my brand new Loaded model. I just used a thin flat-head screwdriver but using something softer would definitely be a much better idea. Try using something thin like maybe a playing card or do the "log man" mod to make inserting the slide stop easier.

HAHA, I just came across that log man mod literally a few seconds ago. By the way, a playing card would not be sturdy enough to push in the plunger spring.

You can also just tape it up.

Looks silly but hey, no can scratch.

True, but I meant more along the lines of wedging the card between the slide stop and the plunger to make it easier to push the slide stop up.

How funny... I tried that the first time too.

Pretty good ideal. I may try that log man mod with my dremel.

I just use a flat head micro screwdriver to push the plunger in.

OP, I know I'm not addressing your primary issue but thought I'd at least help you prevent an idiot mark. Found a company that actually developed an idiot mark prevention tool. Recently bought it for my son who received a 1911 for his law school graduation. Check them out

Do the log man mod. I did it to 3 of my 1911 with a needle file. I start the notch with a triangle file, then finish it with the round one. Took no more than 15 mins. Putting back the slide stop has never been easier. Don't have to worry about the infamous 'idiot' mark.

I use an old guitar pick. It works great.
