    Handgun Legality question

So, I'm a bit confused. I'm looking into the Springfield Armory TRP model number PC9107LP. The problem, on the California roster "PC9107L" is listed, but not "PC9107LP." In other words, the roster has an "L" in the end, while the TRP I want has a "P" in the end.

In other threads that I have read state that this is the same gun and that the "P" in the end means "package." However, when shopping online for one of these I keep seeing a sticker, "NOT LEGAL IN CALIFORNIA"

So, is PC9107LP legal in California or not, eventhough there's a label reading, "Not Legal in California"?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

**Update: PC9107LP is the same as PC9107L on the California roster.

The gun in question was brought into California through the SSE - Single Shot Exemption rule. Basically, any 1911 style and various other "off roster" guns can be had here legally using this rule. There's a sticky on it... http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=383692

I think there is an error. I have a SA 1911 Loaded model and its UPC code ends with a P and it does mean package. I see the PC9107L on the list. I cannot answer with 100% certainty -- one reason it might have that label would be, it was not rostered at the time that particular gun was made. Or, the Not Legal in California Label was applied by mistake. Or, I'm wrong.

If it's rostered, then there's no reason to jump through the SSE hoop.

You might ask in the FFL section.

Thanks Jake, I emailed an FFL this evening with the same question, I'm hoping it's all a mistake. I'm just trying to know as quickly as possible, before someone else buy's the pistol I have my eye on

I think that's the answer. The photo of the gun was taken 11/02/2011 -- the gun is rostered until 03/29/2013. since the roster is annual, it was likely rostered 03/29/2012 and not before.

I found that particular gun at auction. If it's rostered, you may have difficulty getting the selling party to ship to CA as so many are afraid of CA. Have you emailed the seller and asked if he will ship to CA? Another thing, look for bidding to get heavy in the last few hours; it will not be sold at its present low-ball price.

SA went thru some time where they thought the "LP" guns did not qualify as Roster OK in CA...

I have several SA 1911s that I had shipped into CA that have that sticker. My ffls never had an issue.

I had the same issue when buying an EMP online, but both FFL-s confirmed the extra "P" didn't matter, so it went through smoothly. It appears to be a known labeling mismatch with SA.

As for the SSE, use only as a last resort - it takes extra time and money.

Thank you for the responses. I spoke to both an FFL holder and a Springfield Armory representative, and they both said it's the same firearm. So, I went ahead and bought it.

I did however, set up a layaway plan to prolong the 30 days I need to wait between buying new pistols.

In the end, I feel like I received a fair deal. I paid shy of $1,400 shipped for the pistol.

I found another one listed as, "buy it now" instead of waiting around for that auction to end. The only experience I've had with auctions is through Ebay and I have an idea how it all goes. Thanks for the heads up.

Yep! Here's another one that the listing just ended, but it's basically the same price I paid. I was eying a couple of them, but ultimately went with the other b/c of the layaway option.

You could probably give them a call to see if they still have it available.

Ah.. you bought the one from Red's. Nice gun.

Your addition costs will be shipping to the seller.

Then CA state sales tax is collected by the CA receiving dealer. (This is new -- started about a year ago when the state BOE realized they were losing sales tax revenue; so, they came down with a heavy fist on dealers.)

Plus you'll pay the receiving/transfer dealer a fee that will run from $75 to $150 including state DROS fee. The fee charged by the receiving dealer is unregulated; so, it pays to shop around.

lol. Yes, that one! My FFL charges $25 for DROS and $25 for his fee, plus 8.25 tax. Basically, out the door it will be closer to $1500
