Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. Jefferson's "Commonplace Book," 1774_1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764

What area of town are you going to be in? P2K might be a haul depending on where you are.

Unless things changed on the civi side, they close at 1500 hrs.

              Agreed.

DGM Santee is my go to spot for handgun shooting.

You mean for being non-LEO? I've never had any issues there.

The times I've gone, the place has generally been nearly empty with just a few other shooters.

It might not be the best location for a first ime shooter as the targets are at a fixed distance (25 yards??? - I forget). They also say "no beginners" on their flyer (or at least did so over a year ago)

                  Flyer in this post:

                  Good luck.

I'd go with P2K if it's not too far for you.

I took a handicapped shooter to Iron Sights about two months ago. She loved it!

They're open until 10pm every day and it's unlimited time, so you can teach as slowly as you want.

The SD PD Range is a great place to shoot. I go there every Saturday morning. Those that know, there are very few shooters there on a 40 position line, there are normally no more than a dozen at anytime. Never a wait to shoot.

If you are not handicapped and can climb stairs, then it won't be a problem, however, if the handicap go alone, they would need help setting up targets as the only access is via an underground tunnel to the target area that has ten steps. (Watch the top step as it's not the same height as the others and most trip on it.)

As stated earlier, open to the public from 09:00 to 15:00, $10 all day, 25 yard only, no intermediate yardage....AND it's outdoors! It does have a covered line though so no sun or rain can stop you from shooting your appointed target. When you pay at the window and sign-in, you will get a target so you don't have to bring your own. Pistols, revolvers, modern or black powder only no rifles or shotguns.

The place could use some paint, but I call it home.

I was looking at the SD PD revolver range flyer, and it says "no jacketed .45 ammo"... Really? You can only shoot lead in .45 acp? What about .40 s&w?
                        Tire kickers gonna kick,
                        Nose pickers gonna pick
