    Nice gams

Every once in a while I get flak at the outdoor range I go to because I like wearing shorts, especially now that it's hot. Thus far, there have been no cautionary tales for me to share-- and I've done it frequently enough-- but that doesn't seem to discourage the "You'll shoot your eye out, Ralphie" finger-wagging. Does anyone personally know of a mishap that occurred because a guy wore shorts shooting??

Huh, barring a catastrophic failure of a firearm (high speed fragments!... and then all bets are off.) I can't see how shorts would be a safety hazard when shooting.

When shooting handguns I can't really think of any. If you're standing maybe getting some hot brass in your shoe?

If seated or proned for rifle shooting maybe some hot brass down the leg of your shorts. Other then that I can't really think of anything.

Hahahaa, that one made me laugh. Only thing I have gotten is some hot brass and jacketing that left some marks. Not really a big deal, it was better than dealing with the heat wearing pants.

If tactical kilts are fine for shooting, I don't see a problem with shorts

i can see a new CA law brewing: "while firing any rifle or handgun, one shall not wear shorts, speedo's, thongs, underwear, sandals, flip flops, or any comfortable piece of clothing."

It depends on the range, but i’ll wear shorts if its hot outside. All the more if i’m going to a public range with individual lanes.

                      Do whatever makes you comfortable.

Some competition shooters wear shorts while competing IPSC/IDPA/steel plate/etc...

Team Glock = wears shorts as part of their team uniforms.

Unless you plan on spending time on the ground such as taking a knee or sprinting to and sliding behind cover you should be fine with shorts on.

The advanced run and gun style courses ask you to bring knee pads for a reason. But if you plan on just standing behind a bench and firing while standing or seated you will be fine.

At most some hot brass will wake you up in the morning and make you extra alert.

How did I know he was from SoCal, probably wearing sandals as well.
I don't think it would be an issue.

I wear shorts every IDPA or Action Pistol all year long.
With God as my witness, one of these days I'm going to wear a kilt.

A little over a month ago a rattle snake slithered by us at the pistol range at Burro Canyon. I don't know if pants would help reduce the risk of a fatal bite, but its something to consider. A tall pair of hiking or combat boots might be a better preventative measure.

After seeing it slither by, I realized how easy it would be to step on one, it was pretty well camouflaged with all the rocks and dirt on the ground. Ever since then I try to remind myself to look down and watch the ground when I'm walking out to set up my target at the out door ranges.
