    RIA 9mm 1911 Tactical...extractor issues???

just got my RIA 1911 tactical from EBR Works, shot about 200rds today and about 50rds failed to eject.

the casing kept getting stuck in the breech face and wont get extracted / eject

any ideas what i can do to fix it? or should i chalk it up to 'break-in' period?

    thanks!

Check your ejector, it might be short for 9mm.

No, thats not a normal problem for break-in.

Assuming (and thats a dangerous thing to do on these boards) that the pistol was clean and lubricated properly and the ammunition was factory 230gr FMJ and in spec, you need to look at extractor tension.

Remove the slide from the pistol and remove the barrel. Slide a loaded round up the breachface so the rim engages under the extractor claw. You should be able to turn the slide over and shake lightly without the round falling out. More vigorous shaking should cause the round to fall. If yours doesn't have enough extractor tension pull the extractor half way out of the tunnel and give it a small bend to increase tension.

Careful, as too much tension causes feeding issues, but casings not being extracted usually indicates insufficient extractor tension although rarely it can be caused by large mismatches between load fired and recoil spring weight. While you have your slide off grab hold of the ejector in the frame and make sure its not loose.

Or you can just send it back to RIA under warranty and have them fix it.

did you take it apart and clean it first?

Also, could be the ammo. Although my RIA eats anything and everything I feed it.

I would try some different ammo possibly.

I was expecting a possible break in period for my RIA 1911 9mm, but it has run smoothly with the 200 rd's I have put through it using miwall reloads

Bad extractors on RIA's are fairly common. Many are replacing them with Wilson Combat bullet proof extractors.

i was shooting 200rds WWB yesterday out that ~50 stayed inside didnt even attempt to pull them out

but today i shot another ~100rds of Fieldtime Range reload ammo after cleaning it from the last range trip and everything function properly

also the gun was field stripped, cleaned and lubed prior my 1st time out shooting it

so today gun is awesome, seems like its shooting low for me @7yds tho
but function was 100% .... weird right?

sounds like it hates WWB ammo lol

Were you shooting 115 - 125 grain FMJ factory rounds standard velocity and not someone's reloads or target loads? The RIA 9mms models I've seen have an extended ejector although not as long as some custom ejectors. It could be your ammo is weak and short cycling when fired causing the ejector not engaging the spent case. Or could it be that someone mistakenly installed a 45acp recoil spring or heavier for 40 cal and that's causing the short cycling?

This was from a Sale ad for a RIA 1911 9mm Tactical:

"The chamber on the gun was originally very tight; I sent the gun back for warranty work and the gun chambers factory ammo (WWB 9mm) just fine now"

I have had nothing but problems with WWB ammmo. I like to stick with Federal from Walmart.

That's why asked what kind of ammo. I've had some bad luck recently with wwb in 9mm. Glad you sorted that out.

Just measured the WWB case rim at 0.386 width and 0.044 thick. Drawing shows rims for 9mm to be 0.394 and 0.05 thick.

Maybe someone can measure Fed 9mm to compare?

I have shot WWB in my 38 Super conversion without problems.
