    Springfield champion

Someone is asking me to help them with a pistol they have all of the peices but wants me to put it together. he said if i can build it i can have it! It is a Springfield champion frame, but has a colt commander 9mm slide that is supposed to go on it. its a complete build up and hes expecting me to do it. Right now im waiting on a few parts but i was wondering if this slide would be ok on the pistol? I know that the champions original slide only had a 4in barrel but the colt comander slide is 4.25?

I'm certainly not an expert here...but something regarding the legality of this doesn't seem right. I could be wrong, though.

then when you get a 22 conversion do you have to re register it? the serial number is on the frame and is resisted to him, if he were to give it to me it would be transferred in the standard legal manner

The Colt slide should be fine, but you may need a a new barrel and possibly a new ejector. Many if not all Champions are cut for a ramped barrel, which may make your conversion to 9mm a little easier.

The pistol will be registered to you when your friend transfers it to you through a licensed dealer as required by California law.

so would putting a 45 slide on there make it more difficult? Is the reason for possibly needing a new barrel because of it being a ramped barrel

Its definitely a framed feed ramp at the moment i dont have a 9mm barrel either and he is going to get a 45 slide and barrel for it, but i was wondering since we have the 9mm slide if it could be swapped back and forth?

I believe the feed ramp will have to be modified to feed 9mm, but that is beyond my level of experience. Perhaps redcliff will stop by to share his 1911 wisdom.

I don't think it will be an issue. It will require some tinkering. I have a Springfield GI Champion.

I tried putting a different 1911 slide on it. As noted above, there are parts which won't work as stock. You'll need a new ejector, for instance.
