Taurus Customer Service experience

I was at the range shooting my PT 140 in May when I noticed that when I put a fresh magazine in, the slide would chamber a round without me having to release the slide.

It had been like that since I got the gun. I haven't fired many rounds through it (there is a lesson is this I know) so I didn't notice it until recently.

I called Taurus, asked if this was normal and they said it absolutely was not normal and I should send the gun back. I sent it out on May 18th through TDS in Rocklin.

I got a letter about a week later saying they had received the gun and would let me know. It would be between 4 to 6 weeks turn around.

Today, 4 weeks from the shipping date exactly, I get notification of a FedEx package that requires a signature. They sent it directly to me rather than to the FFL I shipped it through. (legal, illegal??)

Rather the fix the problem, they replaced the entire slide! It feels so much better than it did before it's unreal. I picked up my G19 this morning so it's like my birthday or Christmas today! LOL

I was thinking I would sell it but now I'm not so sure. I'm going to test fire it this week then make a decision whether to keep it or sell it to buy a G26...damn Glocks...ugly as hell but reliable as a day is long and addictive.

I've never had a problem with this Taurus failing to fire or feed. Now that the slide is fixed who knows, I might just keep it.

All in all, a great experience with Taurus CS. Very nice and prompt service. If the gun works it goes from A to A+.

Hmm guess not much Taurus fans out there. I think taurus has improved the quality latley but IMO nothing I am dying for.

In South Africa my grandparents had an old Taurus blued .357 revolver for years kept in a drawer that got thrown out windows onto concrete and smashed with hammers by my crazy grandmother and sent to be fixed quite a few times. But it worked flawlessly everytime still.

My mom got a Taurus snub nosed .357 stainless Taurus in the late 80's that was all we had to protect me as a kid and herself in some bad neighbourhoods and in every car ride we went on. It functioned flawlessly until we moved here in 1995 and she had to sell it.

A couple years ago she bought a used one identical to the old one we had in South Africa. Functions flawlessly. It's her hiking revolver.

Not sure why people dislike Taurus, maybe I'm fond of the brand because of personal family history with it? I'm still partial to Ruger revolvers would LOVE an old S&W magnum (...registered magnum maybe one day) but would feel fine with a Taurus.

I read somewhere that Taurus makes better copies than they do their own designs. The original MilPro's were terrible. The version I have is not that and has fired and fed very reliably. Aside from the issue I had repaired, I've never had a problem with this gun.

For the money, they are now very decent guns.

I have a Ruger SP101 I bought 6 months ago and love it. Now that I've just picked up my first Glock in a while, I'm thinking of consolidating and going all Glock for my CCW.

We'll see though. I'll definitely be selling the Taurus to fund a G26...maybe even my LC9 although the jury is still out on that.

Oh... G26... You didn't say that... Sell the LC9 and Taurus to get the G26! Small gun that handles like a fullsize.

I'm completely biased but handle and shoot one and you will be too... That little gun can do anything. (Besides hunting).

I dislike Taurus because it is the only gun that ever failed on me. Luckily, the failure happened at the range and not at a time when it mattered.
Taurus did fix it under warranty. I paid the shipping to Miami, FL. Taurus customer service never returned a single phone message and they did not include any paperwork when they rfeturned it. I have no idea how they repaired the gun. I promptly sold it to a dealer and will never own another Taurus product.
Since the Taurus experience, I have committed to buying only high quality guns.

While I didn't care for any particular Taurus models, I got interested after recently hearing about their all-titanium (barring the barrel lining and internals) Trackers. Guess if someone else made those though, they'd be 2-3x the pricetag.

Long as they have good CS, I wouldn't mind a lapse in QC, after all I'd have plenty of other reliable guns to depend on.

That's as much as you can ask for. Just a foot note, it's 100% legal for a manufacturer to mail back a firearm that is under your name to your house.

1) you're fine with that being sent back to your house. You've already passed the background checks and other things necessary to own it. It is yours.

2) I still say this is not a problem and never really was (for the reasons posted in your other thread). This is not something you can expect to never seen in a Glock or other brand of gun, as posted in that other thread also. But... if it happens when lightly inserting a magazine I suppose I could see how that is a little annoying, but I'm not sure how often I would insert a full magazine and not want a round to be chambered anyway.

I have a couple Taurus pistols (a 617 titanium 357 snubby, and a 1911 alr) and after working out some kinks in the 1911 they have been great. I still had to pay for a defective plated safety lever to replace it, but atleast it was a cheap part. Customer service was good though.

Oh...I so did just say that! I went to the gun store this morning and with the pinky extension on the magazine and it fits perfectly. I think that having two guns that are similar will be wise.

I feel your pain. I like my PT 140 and it's performed very well. My experience was different but none the less..I'm going glock. :-)

Yeah when I was an armor in the military, I remember several M1911's doing the same thing and that's why I didn't pay much attention to it at first.

The slide locks up really nicely now and it feels smoother than it did previously.

Taurus isn't bad.

I have a .44 mag tracker and I would make the same purchase for the same price all over again without any hesitation.

I am glad you had a positive customer service experience with them.

I have a Taurus .357 Tracker that was bad out of the box (timing & lockup). It took two trips back to get repaired. The first repair attempt improved it but was still bad, with a note stating that the problem was our use of .38 rather than .357. Yeah, right.

The price of the Tracker has gone up in our area and thus the price difference between it and a Ruger GP100 is not as great as it used to be. We have a S&W 686, Ruger GP100 and the Taurus. Guess which one gets shot the least? And guess which one is NOT going to be used in a self defense scenario - yup, Taurus.

If you got a Taurus and it worked for you, you had a good roll of the dice.
