    Springfield xd .45 tactical

I was going to get a beretta 92fs or m9 but all my gun friends are talking me out of it, so I think I'm going with the 5" xd tactical as my FIRST handgun, a place by me has 2 of them they are $629 is that a fair price??? Looking online they are around $550-570 but then there are all kinds of shipping and transfer fees, they told me to come back tomorrow to nogotiate pricing with the manager, probably get a cash discount of what the credit card fees are which is 3%. So is that good or should I look around???

      Whats wrong with the 92FS/M9?

      Those are pretty different pistols.
Have you shot both models yet?

For a first handgun? Bad idea. Learning on a .45 ACP will reinforce bad habits and you won't learn good technique. Get a .45 later. I love my XD Tactical, but I wouldn't recommend it as a first handgun unless you're already remarkably profficient with handguns from renting or shooting friends' firearms.

I say start with a nice .22 like a Ruger and then sell it if you don't want to keep it or keep it to teach others with. At the most, start with a good, heavy 9mm like the Beretta, a CZ, or something else that feels nice in your hand.

I'd start with an XD9 before the XD45 due to the price of ammo. You'll get more practice in for the same dollar input for the XD9. And I have the XD in both 9 and 45.

The $629 is in the ballpark of what I bought my XD45 Tacticals (have two). Mine were $599 a couple of years ago. The tactical will be more expensive than the service model.

I have shot the beretta m9, I have shot guns just never actually bought one, I won't buy a .22 handgun way to small for me. I haven't fired the xd but everything I have read says this gun has probably the most manageable recoil, not that I can't handle it, I have shot my dads s&w .357 revolver since I was 15 (it's been 20+ years but none the less)

Get the xd over berreta if its your last choice! You will be soo much happier! But i have togo with the other guys! Go with something smaller! Not a 22 but a 9mm would do you fine!

And i got my ported xd9 for 550$ plus tax a dros.... I think that gun Uour looking at should be at like 589$

Plus I'm looking at having only 1 handgun for awhile, just picked up a 12 gauge & after that a .308 sniper (which I've also shot) so money for another handgun will be tight

My first handgun (in the 21st century) was an XD45 service model.
I haven't regretted that decision yet.
Was almost talked into a 9mm.
But the 45 was what I wanted.
Shooting reloads has made it affordable.

I've wanted a 92FS since 1987 when I saw it in Lethal Weapon. So My first handgun ended up being a M9A1. Loved it.. Huge fan.. Was everything I thought it would be.

That being said last year I went to Turners sports fair and fired the XD 9mm. Wow.. what a huge difference. I actually like how it fires better then my M9. So now I am in the middle of buying an XD .45 Tactical. As soon as stupid gun store gets one in stock I'll finish paying them for it..

I'm glad I got my M9. Don't regret it at all but I'm really going to like the XD when I finally get it.

I have the XD Tactical .45 ACP and I absolutely love it! I've taken people to the range that have never shot a pistol before and the love shooting it more than my M&P AR 15-22. The recoil is much less than expected due to the 5" barrel. You can't go wrong with it. Have the trigger job done on it and it'll be one of the smoothest triggers you'll ever have.

I LOVE the .45 ACP round. I picked up an XD40 to go with the 1911's I have in .45 and 10mm. However, if I were to pick up a new gun, and it would be my only gun, I would look at buying something were I could swap out the slide and mag to shoot a smaller round (.22 or 9mm). I think this every time I see a conversion kit. I think Kimber and Sig have such options.

Bottom line, I don't think you can go wrong with the XD. I like that Glocks and XD's have many options for ammo type and slide length and you can use all the same gear.

                          Good luck and happy shooting.

Don't let others talk you out of a firearm you like. Like many people here...I spent so much money of different firearms only to find out that my favorites are actually some of the cheapest

A reasonable suggestion is to buy a caliber you can afford to shoot often
