    Magazine Storage

Hi all...and Happy Fathers Day! I was wondering how you store extra magazines. My Sig came with 4 and I don't know if there is a proper way to store them so they don't rust or anything like that. Any advice would be great. Thank you!

Personally, I have mine in a zip lock bag with some gun oil.

No oil on magazines. Oil and ammo shouldn't mix together. Not much of a chance of the oil doing anything with short term contact but a lot of lubricating oils are specifically made with very low surface tension so they can get inbetween 2 pieces of very tight fitting metal. This also means the oil likes to spread. Long term contact with oil can lead to the oil getting into the powder. Which can cause problems. You do need to apply quite a bit of oil to the magazine to cause problems but since a magazine doesn't need to be oiled, why take the risk? Use a dry lubricant if you need to lubricate the follower/spring in a magazine.

I leave my magazines in a dehumidified safe when they are not in use. No oil.

I just wipe them off and throw them in the safe. 20 years and never a problem.

^ +1 Agree, especially if they are part of your Range Bag/Kit.

Mags are mags = Expendable. Keep them Clean; Service Them As Needed; Throw Away when they are NOT serviceable.
          * Bad mags are only good for one thing = MALFUNCTIONs or Malfunction Drills

Malfunctions induced by Abuse/Neglect from Improperly running/maintained tools = NO Winning

fwiw: Number your Mags as well, helps with identifying, singling out bad apples over time/use.

In my ammo box, kept in Ziploc small freezer bags. Just in case I want to use them at the range, otherwise they stay protected in the bag.

Otherwise, just leave them in the pistol case they came with.

                Store them fully loaded.
If you don't want them to rust, then you will need to perform scheduled maintenance.
