        I know this is a somewhat older thread, but I thought I would respond to your comment here, elfstone. The CZ plastic guide rod has to function in the actual use of the gun. The gun would work 100% fine with no guide rod in there at all. It's only purpose is to hold the spring in place while you assemble the gun. With the slide on the frame, the spring is captive -- front, back, and sides. The guide rod isn't "load bearing" or anything. Aftermarket, flat coil springs can scratch it up and file away at it but I have a couple thousand rounds through my setup that way and the guide rod still looks new. Plus you can replace 'em for like a buck
