Sigma 9mm/.40 life expectancy?

Hi guys,

So I'm just looking for a gun to use and abuse. I know the trigger sucks on this gun but I don't really care. I know I can get a Ruger for a few bucks more and a Glock for several bucks more........but I want a Sigma. Have been reading online about Sigma's having a life expectancy of about 5000 rounds. Anyone know if this claim holds any water? Seems like if it's a copy of a Glock it should go on indefinitely with minor maintenance. So how many rounds have you put through your Sigma (along with your experience)? Highest round count wins!

Your sigma will last as long as you take care of it. At around 5000 rounds... I think the guide rod assembly might require an inspection. Try calling a range to ask how many rounds their rental sigmas has fired. Im prettyyyyyyyyyyyyy sure its in the tens of thousands.

You won't be able to fire a Sigma that many times before you sell and get a Glock.

Sigmas dont have the flux capacitor and nanonuclearbiochip that makes the barrel explode when it detects a reload in the chamber like a glock has. I set my glock down on top of a box of reloads yup. kaboom.

I dont think the Sigma's have any round count life expectancy built into them. I agree at maybe the 5k mark you might want to check it like was mentioned by Solidux above but I'd also start checking my Glocks at that point as well.

I just bought a used Sigma off CG here for a pretty good price compared to new (dont know if I'd buy one new). I bought it for a specific purpose and it fits that. I also own a number of Glocks as well so its not replacing those. Definetly check the CGN For Sale forum before dropping the dough on a new one, you might get an even better bargain.

I have a pre-lawsuit Sigma 40S&W. It has been a quality firearm. You will get a finite number of rounds out of a Sigma but it won't be any less than your average pistol out there. I have no idea how many rounds I have through my sigma but it has been a champ through the years.

If you really want a Sigma, go out and buy a Sigma. I own a few striker-fired pistols, a g19, M&P9, Sigma, and by far the best IMO is the M&P series. You might want to go look at one.

the 5K was for the blowback 380 and 9mm sub compact sigmas. they are no longer made and if you have one S&W will trade you for a new sigma and pay shipping both ways.

I dont know how long they last, I've never met anyone who could stand them long enough to break them.
On top of that, why get a stigma when there are so many other better guns out there? Turners has XD9's and XD40's for less than $100 more than the average price on a stigma

I've kept my sigma cause I got it pre ban with 15 round .40 cal mags.

The trigger does kinda suck but I'd rather shoot it than an OD green Glockboom.

As a former Sigma owner (circa 1997) I too BEG you not to do it. A Ruger P95 is the same price and will last forever. The trigger on my Sigma felt like someone had dumped gravel inside it, and every edge was as sharp as a razor blade. I sold it in 1998 and bought a Ruger P95. The ruger has seen 12,000 - 15,000 rounds and is still going strong.

S&W just released an updated "SD" series of pistols that will be replacing the Sigmas. They're the same price as the Sigmas and have a better trigger:

I'm not sure of a life expectancy on the Sigma but if you want one then buy it. I own one and it has done what I need it to do without any problems. Yes the trigger sucks, we all know that. I own quite a few handguns(except glocks) and I would never part with it. Then again it's probably because it was my first.

About three weeks that is how long i had it and then sold it. Frame, slide locking block should be good for what other had said 5k to 6k round but the extractor and the trigger linkage might need some maintainance before that.
