Is a little play in the Sig p228 slide normal?

Looking around online, it appears normal to have a little play in the slide of Sigs. But what's normal? Should it have have side-to-side play? Mine does which has me a little worried, although it shoots perfectly fine.

Yes its normal, if the slide is to tight it won't slide well when the gun gets hot and or dirty.
If you want change you have to put in your 2 cents, you can't just sit on the sidelines and whine.

Thanks, that puts my mind to ease I didn't get shafted on a used pistol. I just thought it was unusual since none of my other pistols have any lateral movement in the slide.

Maybe the recoil spring needs replacement also. My Glock had some unusual lateral movement which disappeared after replacing the recoil spring. Just something that crossed my mind since your P228 is used.

You're GTG. Both my 220 and 228 have a slight wiggle. but I have never had any abnormal wear issues between the slide and frame. My G19 has almost no wiggle and my 30SF has a slight wiggle, but all are tighter than a lot of 1911s I've seen. Have fun with your "new" used 228. You will fall in love with it.

Your fine OP. This isn't a target pistol, even so you'd want a little play to ensure reliability. A p228 even at 15 yards shoots better than most of us. Very good choice on pistol.

Funny my 1911 is the tightest pistol I own. It really makes no sense to me why my 226 40S&W is tighter that my 226 9mm. The 40 has the anodizing worn off the rails down to the silver aluminum and it is tighter than the 9 that looks brand new. Both guns will shoot as good as I can 1.5 inch groups at 10 yards hand held (5shot).

I have a 1911 that we got in 1962, NRA surplus. It is very loose, makes a ton of noise. Also my SIG P6 has play.

Love all this jiggly frame stuff. As long as your sights aren't loose, they will be inline with the bore. That's what is important.

Barrel play is a whole different story.
