As some of you may know, I just got back into the gun hobby and bought an S&W 1911PD (5") in December. I'll be picking up a HK USP Expert 45 and a OLL AR-15 next week. Expect some range reports for those toys as well!
I've shot a lot of 1911s. I owned a Rock Island 1911 that I added Pachmayr American Legend grips to, as well as a Kimber conversion kit. It was an okay pistol, but the 1911 PD is quite sweet.
Now, I haven't seen too many issues with fit and finish on this pistol. It fits my hand pretty well (not as good as a larger framed gun, I have big hands.) The trigger does not fit great, but it has a pretty good break, a pretty tight hang right before the break, but I'm used to triggers like these. (I grew up on a USP full-size 40).
I've put 400 rounds through it since the 21st of December, and I've had two missfeeds. One was due to a limp-wrist (let someone else shoot it, she could barely keep the gun straight, recoil was causing her hand to weave all kinds of direction.) The other was mine. Can't say what happened there. Cartridge had some black scrapes on the casing, so I tossed it.
Anyhow, here's rounds 300-350, missing 304(the one that missfed).
All shots were at 7yd, two handed using my strong hand, weaver stance, slightly modified for my cross dominance. (As you can tell by the shot placement, I'm right-handed and left eye dominant.)
All in all, I'd say I'm impressed with the pistol as well as my return to pistol shooting. I'm very eager to see how I do with the USP Expert, not only is it a better gun, but I've always been a much stronger shooter with the USP platform than 1911s.
Still thinking about adding those pachmayr grips to this pistol...
